i tried playing hoi 1 and an error came up saying:

Critical error!

--- ERROR: (unknown lhs in command) ' cvalue = 1' Line = 523 file = db\events\ RandomEvents.txt---

Do you still want to continue?

then there were 3 button's to click on they were Abort, Retry, and Ignore. how can i fix this i installed the patch for it?

You should not be getting this obviously. :)
I would say your install was fubar.
Wipe the game from your system and do a fresh install, then just apply the latest patch.
Do not install any user mods, including those on the Patinum eddtion CD.

It might be helpful to post your system specs; dxdiag info.

Also, what language are you running? (both the game and OS)

I noticed that some versions of the 1.06c patch are for the spanish version only - I almost downloaded that one by mistake.

Also, I am not sure about this - but when they said to wipe your system, I think you may have to manually delete the saved game files. If you are using any old data from your previous install, this may cause an error. (although I am confused about the fact that it appears to run fine for several days and then act up again)

It is a great game and you should not give up on getting it to run!

Good luck,
R McD

You could just edit out the event that is giving you the error.
