Not certain if this is present in earlier versions of the game but in the US 107c version, a fun non-fatal bug is:

Hey! Portugal gets to explore sea lanes without explorers! Wassup wi' THAT! Portugal (but apparently no other country) can from game start in the GC explore unknown sea lanes with or without an explorer and no level 21 naval tech is required... I scratched my head over this one for some time and tried all the other folks... Either this is some sort of Portuguese chauvinism (I'll GET you Carlos! <g>)), or there is a strange ability for the 'Caranguejos' to crawl about without an explorer by mistake! This does NOT extend to land units, only naval. I list it under one of those 'Things that make ya go 'HMMMMM'!'

Cheers! ~~Scott

Actually, I discovered this as well, but not with Portugal... I did it with France!! I'm not sure if this is in the European version too, but in my GC game, it's only 1530 and my naval tech is at level 4. My fleet commander is Goneville (I don't think he's an explorer), and yet I can explore ocean terra incognita.

Basically, I can explore all the unknown seas in the Atlantic until I reach North America! Is this supposed to be correct?

I more and more get the feeling that the US version differs considerably from the others. I couldn´t do this exploration cheating except with a fleet where the explorer had just died (and then only for a short time).
And I tried to reproduce this rightclick in diplomacy menu crash bug, but couldn´t. It´s fine in the German version...

Hey Esca,

Thought I failed when trying to reproduce with the Frog, but will go back and try again.

Hartmann,

Since I will assume you are already using 1.07c, that is indeed bizarre. Although the Dip-screen right click crash may be a hardware and software combo that is more prevalent in the US, this non fatal bug shouldn't be that sort of thing at all... That is, as we say, 'Bizarro-Pizarro'!! Thanks for the input folk! Can anyone from Paradox tell us anything further about it? They need to try out a US version and compare to the German (given Hartmann's comment)

Hey Esca!

I went back and tried to get Frogland to do the same thing... Guess what? I CAN'T GET THEM TO DO IT in my game! I get the bug EVERY time I start as Portugal and I NEVER get it with anyone else... If you get a chance and don't mind trying... start a few GCs as the other folks, and especially try Portugal three or more times... If they NEVER do it for you and France does EVERY time, this is a pretty 'Bizarro Pizarro' explorer bug, no? <g>

Hartmann,

take a look at Esca's comment about France in his games... Look at mine. Wonder if in yours it is some OTHER country? THAT would be a trip. I hope you're right and its just some US wack-ball thing!

Seriously, can Paradox folk take a look at a _US_ version? Hardly seems 'top o' the list' for the single game, but it could be a problem if this communicates over into the MP version in an unpredictable fashion.

OK it was my bad.. sorry to get you all excited Rio, but it turns out that those guys WERE Explorers (I just could barely see the little explorer icon beside them). I apologize for getting the Paradox folks alerted to this cuz it ain't a bug, at least in France's part.

But I WILL try Portugal in the GC to see if I see the same bug that you do, Rio...
