An idea that has rattled about in my head for a while is the possibility of hidden traits: Say that a character is secretly a bastard, or that a character is secretly Heretic. The idea is that such hidden or secret traits could be uncovered using spies, and then used to usurp the throne or throw doubt on the line of succession or what have you. I think it would give more meat to the espionage system, rather than it just being assasination.

Another idea is to have a value for claim strenght, ala EU3. It is a value for an individual character with important claims and represents how strong their claim to the throne is.

There is already a hidden bastard feature in that. Bastards can cease to be bastards or become bastards through the spy.

Isn't there a similar one with heretics and the bishop also?

Is there? I never encountered it. Though there was an even in which a character could be declared a bastard. I don't think it had anything to do with any existing traits though.
