Usa
October 9th 1941 is a day that will live in infamy. The Japanese declared war and attacked the USA on this day. US forces were not ready for such an attack at this time and took some time to muster and rally. The Japanese attacked the Philippines, Wake Island, Guam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and looked to be moving towards midway. Grand Admiral Nimitz engaged a large fleet (24) of class 4 subs with his carrier fleet outside of Midway island loosing 2 CLs and 2 DDs for 4 submarines before disengaging in order to protect the valuable carriers. Later that day grand Admiral Kinkaid moved his sub hunting task force into the area and sank 4 more subs for no losses as the subs retreated.
US Air corps forces moved quickly to defend many Islands that had prepared secret airbases under the operation name of Draw the Line. This maneuver hampered limited Japanese efforts to take Midway and other Islands.
US Ground forces took much longer to react finally moving forward to garrison these bases and preparing for Operation Roundabout. The operation is classified so I cannot get any information on this operation.
Other than one major engagement with subs and a few minor air engagements the Japanese have proved to be a Paper Tiger.
The Philippine navy scored a major success holding a Japanese transport fleet in place while a British fleet moved in and destroyed them. This fleet consisted of several transports and a carrier, all of which were destroyed.
We have sent a lot of aid to the SU but it is not doing well, without them ground victories against the Axis forces will be all but impossible. Only time will tell if the Bear can recover.
This is Bob Jenkins reporting.
