Only two terms  FDR had four or is it just for the sake of the game?

and my speech...

Seidita approaches the podium.

Good afternoon my fellow Americans, I come before you today to tell you some rather alarming facts. As it now stands the USA army is terribly small. A nation such as Mexico could quite easily march across much of the South-West virtually unopposed.

If I am elected President I promise a great increase in our nations defensive measures. We will put the American people back to work building ships, planes, tanks, rifles, artillery, all the requirements of a modern military force. Our military will not cower in the face of the growing Italian, German, and Japanese fleets.

Our main weapon against these aggressor nations will be our military strength. Follow me on the path to modernization.

EDIT: Is the Vice-President not our runnning mate he/she runs seperatly?

Okay, one by one.

@ThewEiRdOne27 - as you mentioned, it'll be enough for now to have Chief of Army, Chief of Atlantic Theater Operations and Chief of Pacific Theater Operations. So position of CoATO is yours. As for multiple positions per person, we'll see how many people will be around and then decide. But I don't say no. And my direct participation "in public life of US" is the same case.

@Backfire - as there is indeed small chance of that happening, I suggest you to take some other position. But if that happens, you-Earl Browder- will be president ;)

@bigdan - requested position is yours

@Seidita - two terms for now. maybe even less for you ;) for those 12 years it's quite enough i think. Vice president might/might not be your running mate. As you wish. Both applies.

Ederon in heavy crowd listens to candidate's speech and seems interested. As man on the podium stops for short break, he applauds loudly and chants with crowd: "Sei-di-ta! Sei-di-ta!" Man on tribune continues

During this passage Ederons listened closer and started to doubt whether this is the right candidate. His vision of future was way from that. He likes to live his comfortable life, filled with luxury and well-being. But he listened further.

Modernization was the right word for him to hear. And since he wasn't aware of any events outside US, he was alarmed by this speech. Man on the tribune seemed be to strong personality with devotion to what he says. And that's the right base.

As Commander of the Atlantic Theater of Operations, I would like to say that Seidita has a strong vision for the American Armed Forces, and sees the increasing threat from both Imperial Japan, Germany, and Italy.

I have traveled to Europe several times. Adolf Hitler, leader of Germany, is preapred to use his military. We cannot sit by and watch this threat grow without response like the Allies, who believe containment is the best policy.

Japan is an even greater threat. We must protect our interests in the Pacific in order to insure the safety of North America.

However, as a citizen, I want to know what plans the candidates have for the economy. This issue remains important to millions of Americans. That said, without a strong economy, we cannot have a strong military.

I would like to see what Rocketman has to say before I back either candidate.

ThewEiRdOne27

BTW: What version are we using (please be CORE...)?

I suppose most of you would prefer CORE. So it shall be CORE.

Yay! :D

When's Rocketman going to speak?

Rocketman approaches the stand.

My opponent has made some fine points indeed. The aggressors in Italy and Japan, and to a lesser extent Germany, are threatening the world order established after the Great War.

However, we have our own problems. The United States require a President's attention first, not the battlefields of Europe.

I do not speak against a renewed military buildup. However, with the exception of our Navy, I suggest a slower rebuilding. If we move too fast, we could play directly into the hands of those eager to destroy America and all she stands for.

The American people must be cared for first! We must meet the needs of our civilians, put them to work on projects that will help America recover from this Depression.

Vast programs should be begun, to make better use of our resources, to improve our people's lives, before we begin tossing people into uniform. Our industries should be refurnished with the best modern technology can offer. Our Navy should be the most feared on Earth, even moreso than the British Navy.

The focus of the American military should be defense, not offense. Perhaps concrete fortifications along the Mexican border could satisfy my opponent's fear of the Mexican Army?

As for Seidita's Germanophobia, would Germany dare attack us with 3,000 miles of American and British controlled waters between us? The European Allies held Germany in the Great War. We should rely on them, send them aid, even send volunteer forces, if some of our people are so inclined, and if it comes to war.

America's focus should be on improving the lives of our civilians first, and defending our territory second. I believe that with concentrated research into the fields of industry and electronics, as well as Naval and Air technology and warfare tactics, the United States will emerge as a great nation, envied by the world.

Comments:

Mr. Rocketman brings up some very important issues that need to be addressed. The path to a great nation starts with a strong base at home. If Americans have faith in the economy, then we will be strong against our enemies.

But I fear Mr. Rocketman underestimates the Germans. Yes, they are 3,000 miles away. However, as we found out in 1917 by way of the famous Zimmerman Telegram, their influence is great. If indeed we are called to war, we must be prepared. We are already dangerously behind in research. I fear that our military will be useless if we continue this rate of research over the next five years.

I've spent many years in the military, and I can say that all branches must work together to defeat any future enemies. Having a strong fleet will protect us from Japan and Germany. But, as Seidita pointed out, we are still vulnerable in the north and south. Battleships won't defeat the Mexican Army.

Seidita has failed, at press time, to come forward with an effective economic policy. I will not put my support behind a candidate simply because he loves the military. I will continue, as an observer, to watch these two, and see how their campaigns unfold.

Great! Our staff is coming together. :D

I think that we should simply have Presidential elections. Whoever becomes President can pick his own VP. Voting for the VP is not as realistic.

Psst...this is CORE, the Germans have -25 influence... ;)

An old couple living somewhere in America turns on their radio and begins going through stations. Eventually they tune into the signal they were looking for, another speech of Grand Admiral Seidita, candidate for the President of the USA.

Good evening America, this is Tom Seidita.

For the past years I've watched this great nation with its mass resources and industries fall into a terrible depression. It will be up to the working Americans as well as the government to give our country the push it needs to restart our economy.

And with our industries again working at full capacity we will put the coal miners, the steel mill workers, and the oil drillers all back to work. Countless other industries and jobs all will be put back in business. We will work towards the development of new technologies that will make these jobs more efficient.

I will also let it be known that i will not attack my esteemed opponents policy views, but I will answer in response to what he said about mine. First an offensive military is important to me, the worst scenerios involve foreign troops invading American soil. But, I do not look for war, still we must stand ready in the event war comes to America's doorstep as it has many times in history and we found ourselves unready.

Also before I finish my speech let me point out that I am not a "Germanophob", I am sorry that anyone could say such a thing about me. But I will leave it at that.

So vote for Seidita, the man who will bring America on the road off depression and on the rode to prosperity and a better tomorrow!

*a brief moment of static*

"That was the candidate for our coming election Seidita, now back to more of your favorite songs."

For what? A half-year?

I never trust men in Lederhosen anyway. :p

This election looks interesting, though.

A question for both candidates: what are your views on the New Deal? Will you further it, or roll back the programs?

From looking over the list of positions, I'd like to apply for either the administrator of R&D (I'm an engineer, so I can write technobabble with the best of them :p ) or one of the one-star general positions in the Atlantic Theater. I know my number of posts has a great big 1 next to it, but I have a great deal of experience writing war situations, and I've played strategy games on a world stage far before I found HoI. I'd rather have a low position anyway, since it gives a chance to RP in the trenches.

Meanwhile in his office , the chief of army Warman-mx had just finished listening at presidential candidate Seidita´s latest broadcast when he lit up a cuban cigar and said to himself.

both current presidential candidates act like they already have planned where our glorious nation is going in the next few years, they have figured out that we will be in a war against the germans most likely in the near future, they also fail to realise the impendig threat of emerging communism which opposes our way of life even more than fascism.

at that moment he called his staff and made an announcement.

as you all know , presidential elections are drawing near and both of the current candidates have failed in my opinion to express a political platform worthy of our great nation and not in the best interests of our people in this incresingly complex world.

This is why i have decided , and would like to have your support, to run for the presidential office in the uncoming elections.

i have no wish to leave my current position as Chief of army, but will be forced to if i were to win the elections, in which case i would appoint a worthy succesor who would serve for the best interest of our armed forces.

Again, on-by-one:

@Panzeh - you're in

@ThewEiRdOne27 - elected president can pic vice president as you suggested

@Kodel - # of posts doesn't count here ;) You can take either position you mentioned, but I can't guarantee you minister position, it's matter of next presidnet...

@Warman-mx - so we have another candidate here :) I'm signing you down

IMPORTANT
Elections shall be held on Monday through Tuesday, ending when I first visit forum on Wednesday (morning 7-10, GMT). Candidates can apply and make their campaign till Monday 0:00 GMT. Anything posted after this term by any candidate (regarding their campaign) will result in his expulsion from elections!

The next morning the Chief of Army high Command Warman-mx called for a press conference to make the announcement

My fellow americans, after analysing my opponents political platforms, i have realized that the american deserve something better.

This is why i want to announce that i will run for President of the United States.

First of all , i disagree with my opponents views against Germany. We should not promote any kind of behaviour that threatens our diplomatic relations against other countries.

I agree that our armed forces need a boost in funding so they can be one of the worlds finest, and also to be able to be a significant factor in world diplomacy we need an army big enough to back our words.

If countries fear or respect us , they will listen to us.

As a veteran a the Great War i know that Germany should not be trusted, but i also have realized that the biggest threat to our way of life comes not from fascism , but from the Communist Soviet Union.

This is why i consider Fascism as the lesser of two evils. Comunism and fascism on a lesser degree should not be allowed to expand and gain ground on Democracy.

Thats why our armed forces must be in proper shape in case a conflict arises that threatens our glorious nation. Be it Fascism or Comunism.

My proposal is simple , boost our military programme so our army can be prepared in case of war. This will also help our economy crawl out from the terrible depression we fell into at the end of the last decade.

More jobs mean more people will have the means to live a proper and comfortable life, with the assurance that their homes will be safe and protected by the weapons that they themselves produce.

And oppose Comunism fiercely.

After his speech was over, The Chief or Army (CoA) lit up a cigar.
right after that a reporter from the New York Times asked.

-"are you done Commander?"

-"No, son. I have just begun"

Elections '36

This is becoming more and more fun :)

Guys, would you mind if I use your citations in AAR for this game? E.g. your speechees, radio broadcasts, etc.

Chief of Air Defence Wolfhound listens to all three presidental candidates, and thinks about all of them for a while.
"Well, well, well. So what we´ve got here?, he adresses his aide.
First there is mr. Seidita. Nice little warmonger, don´t you think? With him in charge, I am sure America will participate in some war during his term of offince. I can´t say I like that idea.

Then there is mr. Rocketman. I like his policy, as he focuses on the defence more and I really like his plan of aircraft research. But how far is he going to go with isolationism? If the Monroe doctrine is violated, is Rocketman strong and decisive enough to carry on and fight the aggressor? I am not sure and I don´t like that idea either...

So there is third-party candidate, mr. Warman-mx. He is little overreacting with the commies, don´t you think? And his plan to help economy through the army buildup... what are we? Germans? Don´t take my stand bad, but I think that the only reason this candidate can run for president is the fact, that he is backed up by old Ford and his money. I don´t think I like this candidate...

With this said, Wolfhound grins.

Nothing new. Three candidates, none of them better that the other. I wonder where is this country going...

PS no offence anyone ;)

And CORE will do just fine.
