I usually play as the count of Driftmark, because he's of Valyrian culture. In the lastest patch they changed him from West to High Valyrian, which means almost ALL of my children die on childbirth.

My uncle, who's also HV, had 4 kids. 3 of them died on childbirth. That seems a bit too much. Is there a certain event which causes this? I know there is an event which kills randomly generated HV culture courtiers.

The Velaryons are exempt from the High Valyrian culling event the same way that Targs and children of Targs are. Also the event does not kill children on birth, so I suspect that something else is going on here. I will have a look and see if I can replicate it when I am at home.

Thanks. It's really frustrating when you get a Strong son and he dies on childbirth. I even saved and reloaded a day before the child was born. I did that like 10 times, and every single time the child died.

I never heared about that "High Valyrian culling event". What does it do and why?

Kills of randomly generated High Valyrians (like those who are lowborn and of generic 'of X' dynasties), since you're not supposed to have a bunch of High Valyrians walking around. The culture is restricted to only a few dynasties.

Does this mean that you can't properly play as a custom High Valyrian then? Also how am I supposed to find people to manage castles and the like as a High Valyrian if all my randomly generated people die?

Player controlled non-targ/blackfyre High Valyrians get an even that fires at game start, exempting their dynasty from the cull.

I think randomly generated courtiers/barons switch to west/east Valyrian.

If you start in the conquest bookmark, you can spread out High Valyrian Lords wherever you go. They still might switch to East/west (depending on location), though.

I'm playing a game as House Velaryon right now with the long term goal of becoming Lord Paramount of the Crownlands and then King of Westeros, what happens if I create a cadet dynasty for my bastard High Valyrian son?

His descendents will drift to west Valyrian culture.

I accidentaly made the Velaryons Patricians yesterday night after revoking Driftmark (as Aerys/Rhaegar). Their four high valyrian Patrician vassals did not die the first year, I'll report what happens to their children.

I get five random high valyrian courties a month who die right away ever since I created the Republic of Crackclaw Point, so the game might try to weasel itself around the HV purge to not have to create new patricians all the time.

Maybe I found a way to raise the glory of old again, hehehe

Had a bit of reverse going on here. I decided to play during the Clash of Kings bookmark. Replaced some county with my own creation. A Blackfyre :) After a couple generations of careful marriages attained the Stormlands (it was in disarray anyway). Now obviously as a Blackfyre (with the trait), I had an automatic claim on the Iron Throne and all that jazz. So went about pushing that here and there and eventually Baelor Blackfyre was crowned King. Now three generations before I had attained a dragon egg and Baelor's father had hatched it but it went wild. Baelor tamed it in Summerhall (which I had previous taken and colonized). So now I had a dragon-riding Blackfyre on the throne. I had the original founder High Valyrian and yes courtiers would die off and the like. But once I had the Iron Throne, there were dragons in the world again and all of that jazz, I noticed occasionally a message would pop up saying so-and-so courtier has left your court (having gotten married somewhere). And all of the courtiers were randomly generated High Valyrians. And they weren't dying. Next thing you knew, there were High Valyrians all over the place.

I'm having the same problem as OP, for what it's worth. Playing as the Velaryons there seems to be an out of the ordinarily high chance to have your children die in childbirth. Goes for both my character and his non-bastard brother (I've been playing at the Clash of Kings startpoint). The bastard has no such problems, but maybe I just got lucky or something.
