I will try to keep this short. In my latest game i've noted a thing i haven't noted before. First (for a short period of time) France had very high religios tolerance to several religions. They had max (-9) towards catholics and protestants and -5 towards reformert... They certainly had need for it since constant war with other nations had brought them to the brink of civil war. About a year after i dicovered this things had cooled down - and they tolerance levels were back to normal (-9 towards cat. and prot. - and 0 towards reform. (i was playing England - and my maw level was -8... and that's an other question...)). I was willing to let this pass, i thought that maybe they had some kind of random event or something that had saved them this time.
Later i discovered that Polen also had very high tolerance - in fact higher, and so far they still have it. They have max tolerance (again -9) towards cat. prot. and reform. and 0 towards orthodox! Sure - Polen had need for it as well - annexing Hungary, Austria and most of south eastern Europe they had all these religions within their borders - and quite high nationalism to deal with. Their low stability from time to time should have made it all but impossible to keep all these provinces - if it hadn't been for their strangly openminded view of other religions.
Can someone explain this to me? I would be very grateful.
