You are all saying Japan, but Johann said he wanted to be ambigous, and the sun shines plenty in the middle east and north africa and greece and it could still be a dark ages game centered around the mediterranean and the levante. Japan is over exposed in video games, so if it is japan it will be V2 and DW for me(and maybe PON).
Maybe we're missing something really obvious. It could be a simulator about the internal politics of a free imperial city in Germany, for example. That would mean...
New game (really new even, not yet another grand strategy game). Check.
Swords (among pikes, crossbows etc.). Check.
No Sweden (unless the game lasts until the Thirty Years War and even then it wouldn't be playable). Check.
Obscure sun reference (meaning that the game is not set during the Dark Ages). Check.
Relevance of the code name (May I say Ulm?) Check.
in what games? there is shogun 2 coming... before that was... um... crappy takeda 3.... oh and koei is making nobunaga's ambition series, just always forgets to release english versions... what else?...

At this point, I think it's wishful thinking to say it'll be the Dark Ages, or Warring States China, or basically anything like that is a niche setting. Popular settings are over exposed because they sell well. If it's not a sequel, my mind wanders to settings that Paradox has not yet done and are relatively well-known or popular. Medieval/Shogunate Japan seems to fit best.
Obviously "the sun will shine" is ambiguous, but he couldn't have said "the sun will rise" because that would have been too obvious.
I find it, well, stupid to say you'll not buy or be interested in a game just because of the setting, when we don't even know what type of game it will be. Also, this is Paradox which usually means games that are different from what's usually done in mainstream games.

I would like it if one hint concerned less about setting and more about gameplay.
For example "it will be a grand strategy game" would definitely calm a few minds, I think.

We're already 90% sure that it's a grand strategy game at this point, I think; They probably didn't make a new engine just for this (that'll be with EU4), and Clausewitz isn't really suited for any other genre.
It will be about Brazilian colonization. Portuguese, French, Netherlands, Tupiniquins, Tupinambas etc. This would at least be a very original theme. It would be sunny, have swords, very hot (not Sweden).
I hope its not Japan, its a cheap strategy to follow shogun TW 2 release. Romance of three kingdons on the other side is much better because it's been made many times by always by koei, a western view of the scenario would be interesting. On the other side it has already been so well made (ROTK 11) that there's not so much room for improvement, as I think there will be none in Japan after STW 2.
