Heh. Gues that's as good a reason as any to be Orthodox- Crusade? We don't need no stinkin' Crusade...

Can you imagine the Patriarch of Constantinople issuing orders for a Crusade? I can just see that blowing up in his face...

Yeah, how about that if u go crusading then ur neighbor is not allowed to attack u or at least get them excommited.

Not very realistic. When your boss/neighbour is off crusading is the PERFECT time to take advantage.

If your boss/neighbor is off crusading their lands would be "protected" by the church. So you could get some land at the expense of some piety points (PP lets call them).:)

Yeah, that is why I said excommited, becuase the attacker were attacking the land of the lord who doing the work of God so u think that the Church would not be upset, it would force ALL of Lords to stay home if they believe that they have risk of losing their land where they are away, thus protection by church. So if u attack the crusader's alnd, u must be a infidel yourself (in the eye of Europe, and rest of lords.)

In my opinion this is pretty unrealistic. A penalty in piety, sure. The church prtecting your lands? I don't think so.

That what the Church did the Crusade, in fact a baron (I forgot his name and place, it was in a history book) attacked a absentee lord (away at crusade), he really lose his reputable, the church was like yell at him,a nd all nobles ostractized him. Think about this logically, would noble who do not care about religion thing (most of them) would go on the crusade, even at the likelyhood of looting? No, there would not be Crusade with exception with only few where Kings went but that would not be historically.

Well, that is what the quotes around "Protecting" meant - not really protecting by force. The only way the church protected your lands was to say that they were protected and threaten excommunication if anyone tried to take them.:)

All this talk of invasion by a neighbor makes me wonder about *internal* threats to your power while you are away on crusade. (I'm thinking along the lines of... uh... was it Richard III's brother that took charge while Richard was away, expecting any day to hear news of the latter's death in the Holy Land?) If the game deals with balancing 4 groups (nobility, peasants, etc.) within your kingdom, how might their unhappiness be expressed while you're away? Could there be a coup? If you do poorly in battle, will support at home erode and threaten your hold on the throne?

You're thinking of Richard I and his brother John of England. "Being away" was the reason I brought up the subject in another thread of "Where is your place in the kingdom". In EU you are always THERE, where ever THERE is and I was wondering if it would be the same in CK or if the monarchs would have a presence on the map.:)

No official word from our friendly and informative game designer.:( :)

My crusade plan, march across the HRE to Dalamitia and Illyria. Then march east to the Hellispont and make the emperor give us ships to sail to Antioch. Then march south along the Mediterranean to Gaza then head east to the Holy City. But there will be some temperary redistbrution of wealth in the name of God, ei. Plundering.
