We started by hatching a plan. We thought we could bait a bunch of units to Tokyo and smash them decisively and then counterattack the weakened troops. The first part worked.
1722828671452.png

At 0h the AI makes a decision on how to move troops. They were marching 19 Divisions on 3 Motor Divisions. 14 Armor Divisions showed up at 16h, a full 7h before the attack.

On May 10, we decided to replace Sir John Simon with Neville Chamberlain. So we lost our 15% IC boost in favor of lower dissent cost. We figured if our economy is going to be limited based on coal production, then IC bonuses do no good, but dissent bonuses do.

In the Pacific, we located the main group of Japanese Transports and smashed them down to a single.

June 7 was our D-Day. We had a single Armor Division show up from the south with the intention of counting as one extra direction of envelopment. Unfortunately it showed up way too early. We should instead move our armor to a neighboring territory and then synchronize the attack. Instead, it showed up 12 hours too early and got reduced to 0h0m and the mistake cost 7MP and 1511 Supplies.

We attack at midnight. Got it?
Got it.
....
Crap. Was that 12:00am or 12:00pm?

...

Sometimes 15 minutes prior to 15 minutes prior turns into 12 hours prior.
...

On June 7, we arrived in force at Fukushima, 48 Divisions against 40. We discovered to our horror that they were at full strength and organization. Of course, we can only see 6 of the 40.
1722829384342.png

At the start of our attack, it was 4800 to 4000 to our advantage.
On June 9, it was 4069 to 2932. If we start out winning, then we are definitely winning.
On June 10, it was 3691 to 1978. This is looking very decisive!
1722829520878.png

Our victory was finalized at 23h on June 11, 1944.
1722829607249.png

We were even able to replenish our troop strength with 50MP to spare.

There is not much left to do except run the clock down. That might be done tomorrow. It might be the end of the week. The last time I played this (in this thread) I was always wondering if the Soviets were going to declare.

What should we do with Japan? Do we still annex or do we start releasing puppets? I made the post and will think about it one night and make a decision. We might top the BB list after all!

Annex Japan, give how hard it was fought over that seems the only appropriate choice.

HV UK Campaign Session 57 - January 1, 1945 - The Great Homecoming

Indeed, we annexed Japan and ended WWII.
1722910654700.png

We started loading up and playing bus driver to get our foreign troops home first. We bid farewell to Tuker, the hero of Koshi. With a single division, singlehandedly destroyed 10 Infantry Divisions, 12 Fighter Squadrons, and 2 Naval Bomber Squadrons.
1722910818331.png

Similarly, we bid farewell to Smuts. He was the face of a lot of our invasions, because he had FM rank and that was higher than the Generals we were sending. We did not have the foresight to promote any of our Generals.
1722910910039.png

Finally, this guy went for a ride everywhere! He boarded a ship bound for Vancouver, then back to Tokyo, then Egypt, and finally found a ship home to South Africa.
1722911005983.png

We thought we could have all of our troops home for Christmas, but sadly we did not, because we did not properly organize. We have 20 Artillery left in Japan and it will be a month before they are home. Well, they will be meeting up with their sweethearts in time or Valentines Day instead.

November 8, 1944 - FDR got re-elected to an unprecedented fourth term as POTUS. He kept his campaign promise of keeping the USA out of the war in Europe and Asia.

Okay, I was looking around the January 1, 1945 save. Guess who has the 4th largest navy!
Probably not Canada as OTL. Is it New Zealand?

If we were bent on continuing the war with Operation Unthinkable, then we should have moved some forces from Japan to Korea and the rest to Europe. I did not imagine we would have so much war support!
1722990172144.png

The US was at 67% at the time. It looks like when they are high enough, we can invite them into the alliance. We are not sure if we can execute Operation Unthinkable without US help. Part of the reason we did so well against Germany was because we had indirect help from the USSR. The Soviets did so well against the Germans, because we made some effort in Poland and held off the German advance in France.

In the OTL, the Germans delayed the invasion of the USSR, because the Italians were attacking Greece or something and the Germans came to help. In this timeline, the Italian mainland was getting invaded and Rome was taken and the Germans started the war against the Soviets early. We have no idea why they did this.

Soviets declaring war (in a bid to win HoI) would have made for an interesting finish.

The Anticlimatic Finish

November 29, 1945 - We finally have an election. We reelected Stanley Baldwin back in 1937 and this government was running for 8 years. The war had been over for over a year and we finally called an election. We can understand some War Measures Act, but not suspending an election for a year after the war. Maybe they wanted all soldiers to make it home to vote.

1722990656732.png

I was not thinking when we did this. So November 29, we decided to deny Winston Chruchill office. The next day he celebrated his 71st birthday. Sorry about that. :(

January 2, 1947 - The Independence of India
1722990947395.png

December 12, 1947 - We completed the tech tree.
1722991015360.png

...and the game ended in a Total Victory for New Zealand
1722991082902.png

With no war from the Soviets, we were kind of excited to finish off this timeline. We are even more excited for the future! Stay tuned!

Epilogue - A Blast Into the Past!

The combination of so many mulligans and so many nuclear devices tested is bound to cause another disruption in the timeline. Here is what else transpired.

January 24, 1945 - Atomic Bomb Development - Nuclear Level 8

July 14, 1946 - Semi Fission Bomb 235
We messed up in this timeline. We could have had this on July 4 and celebrated the 170th birthday of the USA with nuclear fireworks.
Instead we got excited about it and forgot to check our tech research investment.

September 16, 1946 - Fission Bomb 239 and Fission Bomb 233

February 9, 1947 - Tritium Bomb
1722991569905.png

3....
2....
1....
BooOOOOMMMM!!!!!!!

With all the mulligans and one more shot at this and one more nuclear test, we have done it. We opened yet another rift in the space time continuum and we (as a spirit of key people doing key things at key time) arrive on the other side with a new mission on a much broader time frame.

.......

Europe is slowly escaping from the clutches of the dark ages. The Hundred Years War is coming to an end. China and Japan, the greatest non-European nations, chose to close their borders to the world. There is turmoil growing everywhere.

Men of vision and grandeur shed light upon the world as she slowly awakens from her dark nightmare. Christianity is tearing itself apart. Religion and politics walk side by side as the world is thrown into civil and religious wars. The blood-stained boots of European explorers smash down on the virgin soil of the New World.

An era where philosophy and science goes hand in hand with inquisition and persecution, nations are forged and destroyed before the eyes of powerful men, heroes to some, tyrants to others. It is the time when anything can be justified in the name of personal profit and the glory of God.

It is a time of enlightenment. It is Europe's darkest hour.
....

That game intro is brilliant! It is one of the most brilliant game intros I can remember! While unfortunately sticking with the Anglophile theme with this series, I'm excited about this!

Stay tuned!

ADDED: Here it is!

A Blast Into the Past!

Wow, a HOI1 AAR! I've only read through the first couple pages so far, but seeing that you just finished I wanted to get my comment in now. Your decision to send the BEF to defend Poland was a fascinating one to watch. Even though Poland ultimately fell, you seemed to inflict quite a bit of damage on Germany in the process and seriously disrupt their war plans.

Anyway, I'm going to keep reading, but I just wanted to say how much fun it was seeing one of the old games in action again. I'll definitely migrate over to your new blast from the past aar.

There were actually two plays I put in this thread. The second play was at VH difficulty level and that seemed to make more of history happen.

So does anybody happen to have a primer on differences transitioning from HoI1 to HoI2?

I took a long break from my EU2 game and was playing quite a bit of Online Axis and Allies and something WW2 themed is easier to work with while waiting for turns to play.
