Well going to 512/128 would be required, we had people on ADSL on your current speed and it does slow up the game some what, espically when at war. Going to 512/128 would be a good. I think cable broadbands average is around 128 upload anyway and that is what we use 1500/128 at present. Upload is only applicable if your the host, the faster the better.

So i would upgrade to 512/128 if you plan on playing HOI 2 alot with larger groups 3-4+ players. Up to you if you want to go to a higher plan all dpends on how expensive.

Just for intrest sake i would like to know who your ADSL connection is with and what the price plans are. So i can compare to broadband.

I signed up for the Optus broadband plan (1 GB per month download) and in conjunction with my mobile phone account, it was 49.95 per month, but you get 50 free local calls and 4 months free.

Sounds good mate. Im on the Unlimited download from optus its about 69.95 a month, and i also get the 4 months free as well, as i have two mobiles and home phone with optus as well.

Just make sure you dont d/l to much as once you go over the 1 gig you drop back 28.8kb per sec d/l. That puts a stop to playing HOI 2 until the start of the next month when your d/l limit refreshes.

Shouldn't be a worry, I'll just keep my wife off of MY computer. I'll never use a GB other than HOI

I'm on a no longer available swtiftdsl plan - the 8gig 256k/64 plan, $40 per month.

I'm looking at either the 4gig peak/4 gig off peak (so 8ish...) 512/128 plan, at $48.95 per month.

Or, I could go the 4/4 1500/256 plan for $78.95. Hmmm, if there's a good chance I can play on the 512, i think that's what I'm going with.

I'll only upgrade to 1500 if there's too many slowdown issues. (Man I hope there's no slowdown issues....)

I think with 512/128 you should be fine. You might not be able to host a big group but we have people who host already. So try it out you can always upgrade again if you really want to.

You'll have a very tough time going on more than below normal if you host with 6-7 players, Aussie ISP upload really sucks.

Good to see theres a bit of interest with some good MP games.

It'll be fun to beat someone other than the regular crowd time after time for a change ;)

I doubt I'll get my copy as quick as some of you guys, but be sure that as with HOI1, I'll be keen to get some games going again. I'm thinking that HOI2 will also probably have different demands on upload limits, so we may see the need to play on different speeds. As we all know from the HOI1 group though, 6 players in a game is entirely managable, even with several on slower ADSL, and split from Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

And who posted earlier about Melbourne not being the place to move to? We have a summer here to compare with the best of Greenland!!! :p

Good to see you found our new thread Joel.

Yeap i think some big MP games lie ahead, with hopefully some 8 player games. I think HOI 2 is a little less demanding for upload limits but we wont know until we try.

For our first few games i think we should have as little Rules as possible just a few general ones. Like to stop Italy invading argintina, and Germany invading UK in 36, simple things like that. I think tech sharing should be open as its completly different now, you only get the blue prints you still have to do the practical research. This is also linked to the massively upgraded diplomatic/Trade system. As for any restirctions on attack strengths per province or invasion i think the new game mechnics will handle all those issues.

Anyway we will find out once we play.

Agreed.

Our in house rules were pretty much designed for 2 reasons:

1) To add a more historical/realistic flavour to the games
2) To counterbalance or eliminate design flaws in the game itself

Obviously with a new game, we'll need to learn as we go what needs tweaking for everyones preferences for rules, but clearly the rules designed to compensate for design flaws can be dropped for starters. (No doubt to be replaced by new rules as we discover a whole new bunch of flaws - bring on 1.01) :D

There is one rule I recall you suggesting that probably should be carried over through without change. I'll let you try and guess which one it is, but it ruined more games than anything else... ;)

Hmmm let me think for 0.0000001 seconds on that, oh i have no idea. I think it is best left unsaid the regulars all know what you mean, and we can explain it to the new guys in private, hehe i alread did.

Yea it will be to great to have a few good games with all these new improvments, ill probably have a quick run through the game and then jump straight into the hot set of MP with some one. Dive straight in at the deep end best way to learn.

Only suggestion i have is that if we find something new we tell everyone so we all learn faster.

I recommend that you do without house rules altogether initially. For example, it's not easy for Italy to invade Argentina or Germany to invade UK for various reasons. Better to discover those yourself by trying it, if you dare ...

Yea i think your probably right, a few games with no rules at all is best. See what happens and how things pan out. The less rules the better, im sure if there are any blatent flaws or exploits people use we will find them quickly.

Hehe my HOI 2 has shipped, it is now in transit from East coast US to Westcoast US, then on to the land of Oz. I'll keep you informed of any UFH2 (unidentified flying HOI 2) that i spot heading into Australian airspace, and order an imediate interception. Hehe. :D

You should have waited for BF 2 Nolan!!!!

Unless you're a millionair or something :)

I know I'm steering the conversation a bit off topic, but I have to ask, do any of you have the game yet? If so where did you get it from? Paradox e-shop?

Anywhy, I will probably be interested in playing mulitplayer once I get the game, I have holidays till March so plenty of time to play.

None of us have it yet. My copy is intransit from the US, im tracking it online. Hopefully ill have it later in the week before the weekend. Keep an eye on this thread and Private message me your email, icq or msn so i can contact you. Hope you have a broadband connection.

I ordered from EB games in the US on the internet and got express delivery.

HOI 2 Pre-order from Paradox Arrives - SW Victoria

Eureka - my copy of HOI 2 was in my PO Box in Portland at 0900 this morning - the forum has been jammed all day, so others around the planet have no doubt been getting theirs too......so check your mail people, because yours will not be far away now.

Have been dabbling a bit - game looks and feels terrific - the graphics are in some parts similar (IMHO) but overall much better than HOI 1 and there are heaps of new features to learn.

On on....

Cheers :p

Unfortunately, some players will be displeased to know that the HOI re-inforcement process for planes is no longer implemented (meaning no re-inforcing 0 strength planes).

I'll let you try and figure out which player it is *HUGE wink*
