No Probs Omni,

Italy Marches on:

During 1937-1938 Italy continued to revolutionise it's industries, reaching the lofty heights of 73 IC's. It has however noted with alarm the incredible buildup of arms worldwide following the spanish civil war, especially in Naval and Air arms, though tank production seems dramatically up too.

Mussilini should track down his naval advisor and see how those new designs are coming along....

General Franco would be delighted to host Mussolini in Madrid to demonstrate naval bombing techniques :D Mussolini is also advised that if he needs them the elite pilots of the Spanish bomber corps are standing by :)

I wonder who Hitler sees as his more valuable ally? Spain or Italy

FDR has made it known that the USA can no longer remain isolationist as Europe and Asia spiral towards World War. The President has given directions to the War Department for a massive rearming of the United States. Industrial expansion will now take a back seat to the buildup of a new Army and Airforce and a total modernisation of the Navy.

Heh, well, Italy is quite proud of it's Naval bombing arm. After all, it's the second largest in the world!

As for which nation is the more important ally, given Italy is currently unaligned, one would have to assume Spain!

But pretty soon I'll figure out how to use the build units icon and Italy will come along nicely I rekon..... :)

For the time being Spain is more important, but if Italy where to push the UK out of egypt and secure the middleast then Italy would be far more valuable. Funny thing is this game is spain could send forces to help secure that dream, so its all about team work.

Just remeber though, that Germany will not be sending large forces to either spain or the med in ground or airforces. I prefer to leave it basicaly up to you guys to bloddy the Uk nose. I will only send minimal forces to keep it balanced, plus i think my navy will also pose a big enough threat in the atlantic and keep the UK busy for some time there. Should the UK also send lots of forces to either gibralter or to much to africa i will be in a position to invade the UK with my navy.

Only if Italy mainland or spainish mainland is invaded will Germany send massive forces, as its a direct threat to Germany.

So if yous to work together im sure you can cause the UK some pain. I think that with spain it will actualy help balance the med a little bit. As italy by itself was nearly beaten in 1940 by the UK and huge commonwealth forces sent there in our 4 player game. So spain should help keep the preasure of Italy for a bit longer and at least give the aixs until 41 to stay on the offensive.

Game time is still 7pm-11pm Tuesday.

Yes mcicet, sorry mate we're already at March '38.

Although albatross missed the last session as France - might be a chance of a stand in position again as the game continues, from time to time..... if you're interested?

That or you can put your hand up for the next game - although both Aussie group games (Tuesday & Sunday) are currently pre-1940 I think, so it could be a while!

Hey guys, I've already told Major, but I read about the auto-promote bug a night ago and I think it may have promoted some of my leaders.

So if someone can send me the save to reichoflight@hotmail.com I can provide a list quickly.

Hi - I Don't have the save handy to email at the moment, could someone else do it?

But I wanted to ask..... What Auto-Promote bug??

Gezeder

It promotes some leaders to FM even if they end up with 0 skill :( Don't ask me why you'd even have it turned on though

Actually, it promotes without losing skill/exp.

I turned it on to see what happened by didn't notice anything, and didn't think anything of it until I read in VickyWiki that it promotes them without losing skill.

So someone send me the save before Tuesday so I can see if any of my leaders were promoted.

Tonights Game (May 31)

Hi all,

Terrific sunday game, lots of ironmongery at the bottom of the English Channel -- can anyone fill in as France for me tonight??? -- my family are taking me out for my birthday :D

Cheers

Good session tonight, the war finally started. Though no invasion of France yet Alb so you havent missed anything. :)

The surprise German/Spainish invasion of the Azores was a stroke of genuis, caught the Brits completly by surprise. :) Spanish troops blitzed through the Portugese defenses and occupied the country, uniting Iberia under one flag for the first time in History! Though Gibraltar occupied illegal by the English pigs will be a tough nut to crack as long as Alanbrooke stays there with 15divs and all that airpower...

Spanish fleet was caught off Lisbon by a UK/Portugese task force and several ships were lost and some severly damaged. Because of huge alllied air power in Gibraltar it is very hard for our bombers to raid convoys passing through the straights. But our subs can slip through by night and have sent about ten transports and escorts to the bottom as they pass the straights. Our new Naval Bombers and fighters might swing air power over Gibraltar to Spain or at least allow our bombers to operate effectivly. Shipyards in La Caruna are working day and night on more submarines so that we can totally cut supplies to UK forces in the Med. :)

We wait now for Germany to overrun France and join their Spanish brothers at the Pyrenees :)

War has begun, the shroud of the dark side has decended.

German forces poured over the Polish frontier with Panzers blitzing fast through all opposition, they were unstopable. Soon all polish resitenc collapsed and with-in two weeks poland was annexed for the Axis.

In a more daring operation which had been conceived well over a year ago by the OKH, in response to portugal joining the allies. German ships plying the atlantic had indictated prewar that there were 3+ British Divisions garrisioned on the azores. This was a suprise since the azores were portugals soviergn land, something was a amiss here, what was churchill up to. With Spain being threatened from the north by France, South from gibralter, West from Portugal and its sea lanes threatened with the garrisioning of the azores it was decided portugal would be dealt with first along with the azores.

Hitler informed Franco that it would take 3-4 waves of invasion troops to secure the island from there entrenched defenders, using the best troops avaible at the time, these being moutain troops mixed in with regualar infantry, with supporting artillery brigades and commando leaders. Each wave would hit the beaches seperatley to slowly ware down the defenders, with the bulk of the German carrier fleet supporting the operation, which included 10 CV's.

Th first wave went in, after a day of fighting the commander informed the admiral that the first wave had been ineffective, the admiral ordered the second wave to launch. In a tacitcal blunder, a junior spanish commanded errored and convinced the commander of the third wave to launch as well, resulting in over crowding on the Tranports and confusion on the beaches. The rigid troops pressed there attacks and nearly won the day. Another blunder had occured the 4th wave transports had run out of fuel and could not reach the beaches for the landing, luckily this was spoted a week befor the invasion was planned an the Tranports were only a day away when the 2nd & 3rd waves failed to secure the azores. A junior spainish logistics officer was shot for this error. Once the 4th wave was positioned it hit the beaches hard knowing they were our only hope.

It was at this time a UK CV fleet showed up with 6 CV's. The German CV fleet immiediatly intercepted the British fleet and began naval operations. With-in hours 2 UK CV's were heavily damaged and the fleet was forced to retreat or stay and face certain destruction at the hands of the mighty German Navy. The invasion continued and by a stroke of luck succeeded, Hitler was most pleased, that his well concieved operation had worked. 3 British divisions were transported back to Germany and forces to work in munitions factories for the duration of the war.

The invasion of the azores was close to a disaster but in the end turned out to be a great success, it was just like real life, some times a bit of luck makes can turn defeat into victory.

In the mean time Spainish forces were busy overunning much of portugal and in daily battles with the RAF based out of Gibralter. Once Portugal was secured German naval forces began limited convoy operations in the atlanitc with early successes sinking UK shipping by the dozen. In the months to come the German convoys operation will reach full strength in the early parts of 1940, then we shall see how well they will do. FDR was also heard complaining to a german spy in the whitehouse how the German fleet had had reduced trade effiectiveness to less then 55%, this was valuable info, thanks FDR.

Italy Decleared war on yougoslavia, and qucikly penertrated the frontier provinces. In a suprsie move the UK pushed for Yougoslavia to join the Allies which they accepted, and hence the UK was now at war with Italy as well. I suspect churchill hill was furious at losing the azores and so decided to take it out on poor musolini know that retribution on Germany was beyond the UK's capability.

British forces quickly overan much of north africa with out firing a shot, as italy had already decided pre war that north africa is simply not worth the effort, and had repositioned much of its army to mainland italy to await further operations in the future. The Allies now asked Greece to join there Alliacne and they accepted. Soon italian forces were rushing over the Greek border, and soon nearly all of greece will also be in Italian hands, after the UK duped its people into believing that they would protect them. That should serve as evidence of how the UK treats it allies, only as cannon fooder for the aixs.

This is basialy where the session ended, in late October 39. Interesting developments, will be good to see what happens in next session once France falls and the UK is forces to defend its mainland, as its fleet has already proved useless. Good sessions guys.

Interesting session...Learnt that the Germans cant be trusted after they based fleets in Spain before the start of the war after giving a guarantee that no german forces would be in Spain before the war. Another verbal guarantee not to base aircraft in Spain was also broken. The huge naval bombardment factor indictated that the German aircraft carriers were there and a fleet which outnumbered the british 5-1. The British commander skillfully escaped the ambush with all ships safley away.....
Meanwhile an Italian DOW on Yugoslavia which the UK had Guaranteed resulted in a DOW by the UK with the full support of its people. Nearly all of North Africa is under allied control. The Italians obviously fearful of the UK military left no defenses. Operations in the Sudan have see Eithopia's empire shrink with a few rebel divisions hiding in the mountains all that remain. Meanwhile and attempted inavasion of Crete failed and the Italian troops seen retreating in full run. A Spanish attack on Gilbralter left many dead on the Spainish side with zero casaulties on the Allied side. Every Spanish divisions was decimated. A Spanish surface fleet was caught off Spain by a UK surface fleet and some capital ships were lost by the Spaniards with the loss of a couple UK destroyers.
All in all a good session for the UK with a few convoy losses and a couple destroyers sunk. The Merchant marine stands at over 1000 ships after big prewar building. The RAF controls the skies with many Axis aircarft afraid to fly.
