I am trying to install the upgrade (1.04). I put the file into the HOI folder before opening it, and get a message".....can't find the game..." What am I doing wrong?. NOTE. The system has 2 hard drives, Win 98SE is on C: and HOI is on D: Does the game need to be on the C: drive? Does the disk need to be in? Are the upgredes sequential? (I have 1.02 on the disk.

I had that error too, I downloaded the wrong version. Make sure you have the correct version. According to your location, that should be the North American version.

By the way, there are newer versions (1.05 and 1.05b). Unless you picked 1.04 intentionally. :)

Assuming you have the correct version of the patch and since you mention 1.04 I guess you got that from the SF site.
You only need the latest patch.

The problem maybe that the registry did not properly record your path.
You have really two option.
1) Reinstall and use the default directory on C drive.
2) Edit your registry useing a program for example regedit.

You need to ensure you have your correct path listed.

Actually we are up to 1.05C. Plus make sure you unzip the files into the HOI folder, don't copy and paste.
Yeah, I know about 1.05c. I didn't see the late date of that post. It sounded like 1.05b was still available.
My misstake.

Personaly, I don't think I have a need for the 1.05c (beta version package, right?) just now. Won't take any potential risks with a beta if I have no direct need for a specifc fix.

1.05C is a good idea. If you are comfortable using zip files.
I think that Stategy First put up a version on thier site that is EXE though.

Actually it is more of a tweak than anything else. fixed a couple of glitches in 1.05b.
Possibly the most visible fix in 1.05b & 1.05c is for the infamous Dec 13, 1941 freeze in 1.05. There are a huge number of bug fixes and unit/tech changes in the beta patches too; the change list for 1.05b+1.05c is at least as long as any of the "official" patches except for 1.03. I strongly recommend 1.05c.

It is up to him but as I said it is recommended by me as well.

Actually I got that Dec 13 1941 freeze today. And the 1.05c saved the day! :D

I guess I take a chance in saying too much again, but it seems to me that this fix by itself deserves a fix file/fix package. The solving of the Dex 13 1941 freeze is not a tweak inmo, it is a bug fix for a critical problem. I read the readme earlier and didn't read the text for 1.05b "Event changes" properly. I stared at the text for "Bugfixes".
Maybe there are other show stoppers I haven't seen yet - or heard of - but this 1941 freeze defintely was a complete show stopper and searching a bit it seems that it has caused serious trouble for several gamers.

It says "hopefully" in the 1.05c readme. Well, it worked for me.

Glad you got it sorted out.
