HoI2 crashes to desktop

Hello

Here is the problem - each time I start HoI2 (which is patched to the leatest version) and choose my nation in any of the scenatios the game immidiately crashes to desktop. There is no error message, nothing, just I see my ugly windows again.

I tried Castellon's standard procedure, no joy. No viruses, spyware, drivers updated to the latest versions avaliable.

On the same compuputer I used to run HoI2 without any problems, this CTD does not occure when I play Victoria, EU2 or CK.

I have to add that this kind of CTD happens in Hearts of Iron I, too.

Would appreciate any help in solving the problem.

Try to reinstall, see this how to do it. If that dosent work, post your Dxdiag.

Tried it...

I found something is wrong with my DX, reinstalled it after uninstalling dx with dx eradicator, but still the problem is there, HoI crashes and so on...

Upgrade your Dx to 9.0C
See if that helps, but looks like you are missing files and that you have registry problems as well.
You may want to consider a reinstall or repair install of windows.

Ok, I got Dx 9.0c. Still no joy.

Do you know how to repair registry in the areas mentioned in the dxdiag above?

I tried reinstalling dx, uninstalled it with Dx happy uninstall, rolled back to 8.1, installed fresh 9.0c and the errors in registry are still there...

I don't want to reinstall windows...

I don't get it, why does EU2 run ok and HoI2 not....

I tried reinstalling dx, uninstalled it with Dx happy uninstall, rolled back to 8.1, installed fresh 9.0c and the errors in registry are still there...

I don't want to reinstall windows...

I don't get it, why does EU2 run ok and HoI2 not....

Ok, I tried to do a repair install of windows xp, but it says I have older version then the version currently installed ( on the cd i got a pre-sP2 ver and on the HD i have it updated).

The problem lies not in the game , that is for sure, installed it on my friend's PC and runs perfect.

I'm afraid i will have to reinstall windows anyway:/

Something has changed - instead of just a CTD i get this message about error

What does it mean?

Did that, it didn't do anything.

the opening video plays ok, when i rename the avi folder the game still crashes. It is so strange, wanted to make sure if vicki and othe EU games work- and yes, they do.

If you did not start the thread then unless you are sure the support staff is on the wrong track then do not post in the thread. To many people telling the person with the problem what to do, just confuses them.

Ie Followed all my standard advice, which includes renameing the AVI folder.

First of all, thank you for your attention, all who replied to my post.

Regarding the error message:

It goes like that:

I click ,for example, scenario 1939, choose Poland or any other country and click start. black screen (with music in the background and I get the message saying taht hoI2 has performed wrong operation or sth like that and it will be closed. I can't give you exact translation in the way it is in english versions of Windows, but you got the picture. Then , in the window with the "hoi2 will be closed" there is "click here" to get more indormation about the error. and this gives the info I posted abouve.

I am not sure it it is caused by the registry errors with Direct X, but it also needs some fix. I breleive that Vicki and EUand CK have more less the same graphics engine as HoI series and it makes me totally confused, thefact that these games work perfect. And other games, from Bf2 to Oblivion. But the more ambitious one- HoI- doesn't

I'll try to make a screenshot of these error messages.

Okay that makes more sense, the actual error message is the one you get first, "hoI2 has performed wrong operation or sth like that"

Also What drive do you have the game installed on?
What drive are you running your Virtual memory on?
