Hi folks,

After enjoying many, many challenging hours of play in HoI1 thanks to the Stony Road mods I'm wondering about the future for HoI2.

I (finally!) get a copy tomorrow (18 Feb - curse the UK release date!) and I'm keen to see if Paradox have made the game more challenging than the "Vanilla" HoI1.

Have you (The Stony team) had a chance to assess what HoI2 offers in terms of difficulty and if you have, are there plans for a full-on Stony Road to HoI2?

Thanks in advance.

Yes there will be Stony Road for Hoi 2. :D

HOI2 seems to be harder then HOI - wonder about the upcoming AI patch and its impact. IMHO there is more need for HSR then ever because HOI2 simply lacks the events to handle situations in which players take advantage of AI flaws (esp. invasions of UK/USA) which was a strength of HSR.

Making HOI2 much harder is IMHO not really needed - its rather dealing with its flaws thats neccessary.

:) I had finished last weekend a first version of HSR for HOI 2. It is getting ready for release by tjaja. Still waiting for some clarifications from Paradox moderators about some issues I wanted to be addressed though which I hope can be resolved before the release.

Paradox should just hire the Stony Road team, or at least as many as they can get. I'm sure the Stony folks would love to write events and sprites all day and get paid for it. Think about it. If you hire just one person dedicated full time to scripting events and giving the game the WW2 feel, flavor, and difficulty your customer appreciation would go through the roof since that's a big part of what the complaints are about.

Nah, trust me, SR and other Mods are so great because they are made on the outside : no rules, no company policy, they can do what they like.

Or at least Paradox should be supporting your efforts as much as possible. They should pay for your monthly web hosting costs. They should be giving you development software if you need any, or write tools to help you. T-shirts, something... anything?

as much as you guy improve the game they really should

Maybe they want to do it from a love of the game rather than for material benefit.

I have a feeling they should first look for their webhosting and get the forum on a more performant server :)

You can bet this is why we do it. If someone really wants to donate we don't object of course. But it not taken for us ourselves but for something beneficial to the modding community

hey stoney how far out is your team on its first rease?bye the way thanks for all you guys hard work :)

As I said the modding material is ready, it is now up to Tjaja our release manager to create the installer and release it to the people. He will do it as fast as possible according to the time left from the real life :).

As for difficulty, what do you think should Stony Road focus more - tying Germany's arms (and legs and chaining to a wall....) vs its opponents or providing a realistic (ie historical) ratio vis-a-vis those opponents?

(I am assuming SR will start focusing on Germany before moving on to other powers, as it did in HOI1)

In my view, Germany already faced an almost-to-impossible task historically as its enemies (the Allies+Russia) had an overhelming advantage in numbers and resources.

This means that, IMHO, Poland should not have say 100 divisions and '41 tech by the Danzig crisis event in September 1939 while Germany still has '36 infantry...

To conclude my point, what I would like to see in HOI2 (as modded) would be a formidable chalenge for Germany to reach its high points (with a slight chance to win the war) without curtailing too much say on IC or manpower.

Well, originally SR was simply about creating a mod which made the game more difficult - not about making it a realistic simulation of how WWII went (that'd be boring anyway, as we all know the result).

If you want it tough but with a historical flair, try the HSR mod.
