HOI2 won't start

Hi, I just recieved HOI anthology and have installed HOI2, Doomsday and Armageddon on my pc (thanks to a very helpful post on this excellent forum) which has the Vista home premium operating system, the game loads and the game menu appears but as soon as I click on tutorial or start game it says HOI 2 has stopped working and windows will search for a solution to the problem then just returns to desktop.
I have actually got the game to work twice in about 30 attempts but as you can guess this is quite frustrating. This happens with HOI 2, Doomsday or Armaggedon. I would be very grateful if someone could help i'm really itching to get going on what looks a fantastic game.

Do you by any chance have Service pack one installed on Vista? If so I wonder if you are having the same problem I am (see my post below).

Hi Doc, I don't think i have service pack one yet, I have auto updates switched on but i'm not sure if SP 1 is available on auto update yet and I haven't installed it manually.

Ya, it is strange I am getting a crash at the exact same point, only mine worked fine until SP1.

Oddly enough it seems to be working fine now I've been playing for the last couple of hours and both Hoi2 and Armageddon work fine.

I hope you get it sorted I don't really understand as yesterday I was half the day trying to sort it with no luck and now all of a sudden for no apparent reason it wants to work. Might be different tomorrow!
