I've bought the Paradox strategy pack from Steam. I installed Hoi3 + Semper Fi on a PC and it worked fine.

The Mac version however won't run - when choosing PLAY from Steam or running the executable from /steamapps gives me a prompt to register the game. Entering the key from Steam doesn't work, and it says I need a 32 character code.

I've contacted the company that did the porting, and have gotten a new serial from them, which also doesn't work, and they've been unable to help me out any further, pointing to Paradox/Steam.

If you can't play the game you will need to contact vpltd.com
I'm not sure why they would send you to us, we have nothing to do with their activation system.

According to vpltd, this is a Steam issue. As I understand it, Steam should supply me with two sets of keys - one for PC and one for Mac... I think! Welp, back to Steam.

Yes, Steam should supply you with installation keys for your Mac version, which they in turn would get from VP - they are nothing to do with Paradox. The keys to register on the forums here are quite separate, and again Steam must supply you with those which they get from Paradox.
For the PC version only the latter applies, as there is no installation code required.

It is a bit confusing, as Steam already gives me two codes - HOI3 and Semper-Fi, of which the first one was used to register on the Paradox forum. On top of that, there's the Steam key for the Mac version. So, at the end of the day I should have at least 4 different keys. Argh.

Steam support is sendig me back to third party support, ie. Paradox and VP. Theyrefuse to recognize the problem as theirs.

"Technical support for this title is handled by a third party support department - please follow the instructions below to contact the support provider to troubleshoot this issue" - after that, there's a link to the Paradox forums.

At this point i've been bounced back for the third time, having gone through all 3 companies. I don't want to make trouble or anything, but is it really that hard for all involved sides to sort out a non-working CD key issue? From what I see, everyone is surprised by the fact I have an obligatory product registration pop-up when running the executable on Mac.

Should someone at Paradox care, I can supply you with receipts, tech support conversations and error screenshots.

Paradox cannot supply you with the Mac installation code, as that is generated by VP and sent to Steam and is nothing to do with PI, sorry.

As I understand it VP have already supplied you with such a code? And was it "34 characters including dashes" as your screenshot says? If they've supplied you with a code tat doesn't work then to me, that is clearly their responsibility to fix. But there is literally nothing Paradox can do here, they didn't write the Mac version and especially not the installer code - VP did.

For whatever reason, I got a second 24 character key from them first. Then I took a screenshot of the error, gave it to VP and was sent to Steam by them. I had the impression they had no idea where the 32 character key comes from.

As AndrewT says, there is nothing we can do. I do not have codes for the mac version. What did vp say when you contacted them?

In the first reply to my support ticket, VP gave me a 24 character key. This did not work either (the validator/game register window needs a 32 character key). I then attached a screen of the validation app, which I've also placed here. After that, I recieved a second reply:

"Please speak with Steam.. this is the code to register on the forum.. you need the install code that should be with your email..

Seems they have an issue..."

========

I thought this over a bit - I can really make do without the Mac version - I have a ton of games from the Steam pack to go through, and the other Mac versions seem fine ATM. Just know there's a tech support black hole on this issue for future reference.

If you start this game on a pc, you should get a 24 character key. If you start it on a mac you should get the mac install key, no matter how many characters that is. I can only help you if the 24 char version does not work to register, if the problem is with the install key only vp can help you. They must have misunderstood. If you get the 24 char key when starting the game on Steam however, the problem is actually with Steam giving you the wrong code.

Should someone have a similar problem, this has now been recognized by Virtual Programming as a Steam issue, as several people reported to them a problem with getting only one product key (for the Paradox forums) but not the game key itself. Neither Steam, nor VP are able to help, as they bounce the issue between themselves, and thus a few unlucky folks will have to wait until (if) this gets sorted.

VP is now talking with Steam. Cenwen, try VP again, they should help you.

We can do some pushing from our side as well it seems. If you could pm me the codes you have, we might be able to help sort out this confusion.
Please link to this thread as well so I know what we are talking about. :)
