Where are the new dev diaries?

Deadly important question to which we must know the answer: how many people actually use NATO counters?

9%? Really?

91% of the people that play HOI4 are heathens. How distressing. And here I was thinking about getting into some MP. I can't play with people that don't use NATO counters. It's just...wrong

The NATO counters look ugly and its impossible to interpret what they mean without training. Even if you did, its hard to discern them onscreen with thousands of units.

"Training". Dude I learned NATO counters while playing HOI3, in about 30 minutes.

Alt tab is your friend. And they're way more immersive than some cartoon icons.

Yeah never used them, and i can read them. IMHO completly counter intuitive if you haven't been into the military. No normal person ever thinks about artillery when he sees a dot.

They're just symbols - I personally like them (and am very glad the devs included them, but if they hadn't would have happily used whatever mod came out to redress that or made my own), but I can understand how most gamers wouldn't - I'd bet good money most people who play HoI4 aren't reading military history regularly, looking at maps of old campaigns and what-have-you. I wouldn't think someone's preference for symbology would be a good reason for not playing them in MP (you can use NATO counters yourself after all, and their units will still have NATO counters on your screen). It'd be like me not playing someone in MP because they used a Times New Roman font mod or something!

I used counters in HOI3 from the start and it did not take long at all to learn what they meant. I haven't used them in HOI4 since I heard they don't stack like in HOI3 and they don't show the attack/retreat direction. Not sure if that's the case at this moment. I haven't tested. I might start using them again if they are improved.
