"But sir... how can we have the left thumb bone of St. John Evangelist when he was 12 year old and the left thum bone of St. John the Evangelist when he was 32 year old?????"

"It's a miracle my son, a miracle. Another reason to worship them more, specially when I announce that I have found the left thumb bone of St. John the Evangelist when he was 47 years old!"

"Sir, at the current rates I think we will need 2 heads in order to get one single nail."

"Well, add some of St.Agatha´s toes then, that should do it"

"Does this mean I need to go the cemetary again?"

"No, my son, just look in the shed in the garden...you know, the one we usually use for slaughter and stuff.....Some of the pigs and sheepbones are quite useful....." :D

"I am sorry sir, but the entire content of that shed is already on display at the Cathedral" :D

"If you give your permission, sir, I think that several beggars we keep at the dungeon could provide us with new and fresh Holy Relics with a relative low cost."

(Maybe stop it here? I don't want to spam this too much, but I give you the privilege of the last reply ;))

Fabricate your own relics wasn´t too unusual during this timeperiod. I have recently read about the relics in Trondheim I think, and they had bones from many different mammals, not only human..;)

Relic fabrication was VERY common at this era, but I think it's something too "micro" for the scope of the game. I certainly can see some events about the discovery of new relics (specially after conquering places in the Holy Land) which give you morale boosts and/or piety points, but I'd stop it here.

Yes, perhaps you are right...
I think it is hard for people living today to actually understand the importance of relics in the medievals, it was quite understandable that they sometimes fabricated them in order to gain pilgrims and status.

In reality, most relics were fabricated (some cynics, like myself, would say all). They were an easy way to inspire devotion and awe in a very superstious time. I don't know this for a fact, but I would be very surprised if every army of the time was not accompanied by one or more Holy Relic. I guess that would mean it makes little difference whether they are included or not since just about everyone would have one. However, if you capture the Holy Relic of an opposing force, would there not be a moral drop for that side? Any thoughts appreciated.:)
