I skimmed over some other posts to see if this question has been answered, but haven't found it. In my game recently, after seeing the HRE crown always go to Austria and occasionally Spain, I was mildly surprised to see Poland get the crown. I know it's Catholic, so not that big of a deal right? But then I see BRANDENBURG (who is Protestant at this point) get the crown and after letting the game run on for a while, it has kept the crown for 3 consecutive generations before SAXONY (also Protestant) gets it. Basically at this point, I'm confused so just wanted to know if this has been noted before or whether something's wrong with my game. I'm playing 1520 scenario as Savoy in AGCEEP version 1.56. I have a screenshot too (I was pretty surprised to say the least) but don't know how to post a pic...

This does sound impossible. It's only supposed to go to Catholic monarchs. But I have heard of similar weirdnesses. The HRE is one of the deeply-flawed aspects of EU2, which I hope YodaMasters's team will be able to correct ... ;)

According to the 1.09 patch log:
- Only Catholics in Europe or current electors may become emperor now.
Since both Brandenburg and Saxony are electors, they are eligible even though they are Protestant. A Reformed Oldenburg or Palatinate would also be potential emperors (at least in vanilla, in which they are both electors). :)
