Hi everybody. Can anyone help me with this problem I am having:
I have several computers in my home network, and seem not to be able to get more than one computer on line at a time. My network is as follows.
Word processor comp .5 Gig CPU/win 98
HoI2DD comp 1.3 Gig CPU/win XP
School comp 2.3 Gig CPU/win VISTA

I am good with win98, ok with XP, but am a noob with vista.
I thought I had things working, but now my vista machine cannot see files on my HoI comp, so I cannot share my SS from one comp too the other, and thus cannot post SS to the forum. Can anyone offer assistance with my networking difficulties?

Edit:your probably right, I didn't post there because I didn't have the information I thought you needed to state in order too get help there.

Also, the problem seems to be with the vista machine denying access too the other two comps, as they see each other fine (firewall settings/how too with vista?)

I think this belongs in the Tech Forum.

You need to restart your network.

Start with connecting the vista computer to the network.
Check what the "name" of the network is.

Activate the "share files without password control" option in the control panel.

Then connect the xp computer.
Run "Configure my network" and rename the network to whatever the windows vista name was, usually "Workgroup", or "MShome."

I don't know what to do with windows 98.

Thanks for the help, man. So I'm sure I'm doing this correctly:
All three systems are up and running currently, and are all hooked up to my router. The win98 and winXP can share files back and forth, and both of them can see (but not access) the Vista comp.

So I:
Do the Vista steps listed,
Shutdown all comps,
Restart them all and all should be (crossing fingers) well?

I'll do this right now, and get back with you asap.

Once again, thanks! :D

Well, unfortunately that didn't do the trick. :(

Upon further web searching, I uncovered a tidbit I didn't know before:

When networking a windows Vista machine with a windows XP machine, the XP machine will not show up on the 'map' unless you install the LLTD file. Vista uses this to recognize other computers on your home net, and without it being installed on your XP machine, your Vista machine cannot see your XP machine.

Once I did that, my Vista machine can see the XP machine. It still cannot access anything on the XP machine, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
