Chapter Seven
Donnel's glorious death

Years 1040-41

Donnel's last two years ware actually the same as others. War, war and yes you guessed it...new Kings.

Ashford was without a protector and it's quite a rich city so Donnel decided to add it to his personal demesne. Like always he took his army and defeated the other Ruler. But this time things went not as planned. Donnel, probably delusional due to his wins went into battle together with his soldiers.
And he died....

donnelsdeath.png

Lord Donnel was 39 years old. He was succeeded as Lord Vyrwel by his oldest son, Osbert.

Osbert.png

Lord Osbert Vyrwel

Osbert is quite a character. A great knight and a brilliant strategist. He's lustful and a drunk. An anxious drunk. Also he continues the Vyrwel tradition of baldness.

Will Osbert continue his father's legacy and extend House Vyrwel's power in Westeros? We'll see in the next two or three updates this week.

I almost forgot. We have a new king. The Iron Throne has a new occupier.
Eddison I the Usurper died due to his injuries and was succeeded by his firstborn son Petyr I Arryn. Pinky would be proud.

Sorry for the short update but I needed to split it in two.

Is that a G.R.R. Martin reference? ;)

Chapter Eight
Osbert and the Ring

1041-1053

Young Osbert was a brilliant strategist and loved war. But he had one small problem. Thanks to his deceased father his realm had a extremely bad reputation. So first thing he had to do was to secure the holdings he had and finish what his father started.
Within a few months Ashford was conquered and added to personal demesne.

Than the unexpected happened.

allies.png

We accept!

Yes the young King Petyr I wants to be allies. Osbert quickly accepted as this only bought advantages. This would keep the Tyrells at bay and give Osbert more room for maneuverer as he claims new vassals and lands.

Osbert married Oriel Velarion. A Valyrian as you might have guessed by her surname. And in 1042 they had their second son, Rhaegar. *1
Ironic that Osbert named his second son after the beloved dead Prince who never became the King, while he is allied with the son of the Usurper King. One might wonder with what goal? His first son is by the way named Joffrey. I seriously don't make this up or edited the files.

Years go by and Osbert keeps getting vassals and titles to his name and House. He conquered the Ring. No not THE One Ring, wrong book. Although that might have been useful. The Lordship of the Ring and Red Lake are added to House Vyrwel in these years.

Two Overlords die. In the North one last original Overlord from the War of the Usurper dies. Irony strikes again, it's Eddard Stark. The last to die. Who would have thought? Bet.we just won alot of gold.
He was succeeded by his grandson Tristifer Stark, son of Robb. *2

In the west Raymun Lannister died due to his war wounds and is replaced by his first born son, Bonifer. Bonifer seems like a capable ruler! We should fear the West in the future! He reconquers the lands lost by his forefathers.

In 1051 it's official. The name is cursed....

insane.png

No way!

Joffrey the mad young man he, is paranoid and sees enemies everywhere. So he kills cats to see what inside them. Pregnant cats. Now where did I read that before? I can't seem to remember. :p
But cats aren't enough so in 1052 he wants to see whats inside aunt Lanna!
Poor Lanna was found dead in Joffrey's room. Everybody knew the boy was a bit off but murder? Nah not nice Joffrey with his weird invisible friends.

In the same year, Salt & Rock gets a new Overlord. Thorgrim Drumm

I shall end this chapter with some unexpected news...

war.png

War, they say war never changes....

----
*1 - Rhaegar also has the Valyrian culture, something I wanted to achieve :)
*2 - Tristifer is one awesome name!

Good.

Chapter Nine
The demise of Osbert

Years 1053-1055

The young mad Vyrwell called it quits in early 1053. He had enough of this weird world. So he locked himself up in the Kitchen full of pastries.

shizodeath.png

War with a King and a Overlord

Shortly after Tyrell declared war on us the Storm King decided it was a good chance to grab a few territories. So he declared war on one of our vassals. As he was already in war with the Vale King, Osbert decided he should end that WAR quickly. He sent his northern vassals to King's Landing and they took it within a year.
But the division of his forces was a grave mistake by Osbert.
Anselm Tyrell, Overlord of South was no fool. He concentrated his armies in two places. One in Oldtown and one in Highgarden. Or atleast that was what Osbert though he would do.

After the fall of King's Landing a white peace was signed with the Storm King. The northern allies hurried back. While the vassals from the Red Lake and the Isles attacked and besieged Highgarden, Anselm decided to take a risk and attack Osbert's both armies. Oldtown troops attacked Osbert himself in Darkdell and Anselm went to besiege Ivy Hall. But Anslem deceived Osbert.*

battleofIvyHall.png

Highgarden fell. Osbert defeated Oldtown troops. Deryn would defeat Anselm and go on with conquering the Overlord's lands. Things ware looking good.

defeat.png

Or not.

What happened? Why did he lose? Well Anselm took a risk and split his troops into 4 armies. His own to siege Ivy Hall, one to get Highgarden back, one to attack Osbert and the last to hurry to Ivy Hall and help Anselm. That army totally crushed Deryn's troops. Osbert had only 8,000 soldiers left, while Anselm had 9,000 in Ivy Hall and another 8,000 scattered around his lands. Osbert didn't have any more troops or vassals with armies left. There was nothing more left than going for a white peace and abandoning the idea of a Vyrwel Overlord, atleast for now.

Tyrell accepted and a White Peace was signed in 1055.

Osbert couldn't live with the shame of defeat. Or atleast that was how he saw it.
So he ended his life by jumping from a tower in his newly build Large Castle in Darkdell.

suicide.png

He was succeeded by his teenage son Rhaegar.
Many vassals saw it as a chance of independence from House Vyrwel and declared war on the young Lord. Rhaegar will have to face a civil war!

I dont care if this will be a monologue :p I'll finish this AAR :)

Hey, I didn't notice this AAR... I even ddn't know there was a Westeros Mod. Do you need DV and how bugfree is it?

Good stuff. You've madmen, despots, heroes and emoes aplenty, and now a Rhaegar in control to boot. Your Vyrwells are more Targaryen than the Targaryens!

And it gets even more ironic :p I was sad yet a bit happy Joffrey died...a mad ruler can be fun but it's nearly a sure disaster :p

Maybe some screenshots of the various canon characters would be useful, as well as what happened to them in this wrold.

Sure :) I'll do an extra update. Although all of them are dead already.

Hey, I didn't notice this AAR... I even ddn't know there was a Westeros Mod. Do you need DV and how bugfree is it?

Yes you need DV. In the 1st post of this thread there is a link to the mod.
It's really good :) there are no big mistakes and I have yet to have a CTD. there is one bug doh but that doesn't really have anything to do with the mod but the game I guess. But for some reason people sent to the wall come back. Probably has something to do with the fact that most of them are children. Also the Kingsguard event didnt happen often enough so I decreased the MTTH from 900 to 100 months than got it higher to 200. This way KingsGuard has around 10 knights in it's court. But more on that later as they have a few really impressing knights! :)

Welcome btw :) hope you'll stick :p and if you want to see anything more just let me know. I'll do a bigger update around year 1200. On how the world looks like etc.

Yeah, I'll stick... as per usual... ;)

Chapter Ten
The Rise of Rhaegar

Years 1055-1070

rhaegar.png

Lord Rhaegar Vyrwell

As you can see Rhaegar wasn't the most talented ruler in Westeros. Some might say he would probably even be one of the most stupid. Although he saw himself as a just ruler, it ware his advisors and cousins who ruled the Lordship well. They left Rhaegar to his games and women. For lustful he was. But more on that later.

Rhaegar married Rhaeys Targaryen, a granddaughter of Aegon VI the Usurped.
A diplomatic marriage. Arranged by his cousins who saw this marriage as a prestige boost to House Vyrwell. And they ware right. The high Houses have more respect for the Vyrwells, the Gryphon's of Westeros. Nobody would now object to a Vyrwell King. Or would they?

rhaeys.png

Rhaeys, wife of Rhaegar

The first three years of Rhaegar's rule ware full of war. Seven vassals broke free and sought independence from House Vyrwell. Even his own far uncle in Freemantle broke free. His betrayal was made even bigger when he accepted a Tyrell as his new Lord. Most vassals ware defeated. Some of them ware stripped of their titels and given to other Houses, while others ware executed and succeeded by their Heirs.

Years went by and still Rhaegar didn't have a luck of a son with his wife. They would have five daughters in those years. Not one son, not for Rhaeys.
Rhaegar had three sons, all of them bastards. He had two mistresses in those years. The first and I kid you not, was Lyanna. Yes a Rhaegar who has an affair with a Lyanna..... Who said history didn't repeat itself? Although not a Stark, Lyanna was from House Crane. They had two bastard sons in 1060, Derion and Aemon. Not Jon...ohh well. They did both went to the wall. But they also both died there.

lyanna.png

Rhaegar and friends

His second affair was in late 60s with Bellana Rambton. They had one bastard named Jaekar.

In 1061 Rhaegar got a free new vassal as Glarion Costayne broke free from Lord Hightower of Oldtown and lay his sword in service of House Vyrwell. Rhaegar's advisors convinced him to wage war with another Lord. Lord Merryweather of Longtable.
After a year long sieges Longtable and Appleton ware conquered. Ser Rowan Kidwell, married to Rhaegar's sister was made Ruler of Apelton and a cousin Ser Dondinel Vyrwel became the Ruler of Ivy Hall. Longtable stayed with Rhaegar.

His advisors saw it fit to go on with their greed for more land and power. They wanted a Kingship. But first the Overlord needed to be brought down. So in 1064 they assassinated Anselm and his son Lucifer. The 14-year old Cleyton succeeded as the new Overlord of South. But Vyrwells ware not ready to take Tyrewlls head-on. Some of Cleyton's vassals broke free and joined House Vyrwell but that still not enough. More ware needed but the other vassals ware too loyal.

Meanwhile back in Darkdell in 1065 Rhaegar not thinking about the War, organized a Great Tournament.

tournament-1.png

His cousin the Castellan Ser Guyard Vyrwell got Gravely Injured and died a few weeks later.
The Vyrwells ware getting ready for a war with Tyrells, war of vengeance they say.

In those years Westeros got three new Kings. One new Kingdom and two new younger kings. But more on that in the next update as we take a look at Westeros in 1070 and it's Kingdoms.

Chapter Eleven
Westeros in 1170

The year 1170

Part One - The North

north-1.png

Let's start with the North and the Wall. And even whats beyond that.
The Wildling lands have been united, but no King Beyond the Wall yet. Guess it has something to do with the fact that Wildlings are like Arabs in CK and can't form new Kingdoms. Still they united the Wilds and even conquered Eastwatch. The current High Chief of the Free People is Fenni Wilderborn. A Level 9 Fighter. His father Huric deposed Mance Rayder. Mance died and his dynasty together with him.

Everyone at the Wall died. Neither Jon or Sam got sent to the Wall. The current Lord Commander is Alfwyld Thumbs. A 71 year old Black Brother. There are two other interesting living Black Brothers. Euric Dustin a nephew of the Lord of Barrowlands and Viserys Targaryen a bastard of Aegon the Usurped's son Baelor. He's 11 but could become a real good character.

Jorah Mormont never married his beloved from the south. Instead he stayed home and defended the Bear Island. His grandson Godwin is still the Lord.
Dreadfort is still independent from Starks. Ramsay is the Lord, son of Roose Bolton.

Eddard was the last of the main characters to die. He was 66 years old. Robb never became King and died at the age of 42. He married an unknown Quenya Hull. The grandson of Robb, Arys is the current Overlord of the North.
Jon Snow never went to the wall but become a small Ruler under Robb, he married Bronwyn Redfeather and they had 3 children. His son Williams lost the county.
Bran become the knight he always wanted to become. He was awarded the Lordship of Stillfen by his father. His son Harold now rules the Lordship on his own, without any interference from Winterfell. Rickard become a Ruler of Acorn Grove but he died young. Sansa married a low Ruler of Overton and died childless. Meanwhile Arya married Jon Umber's son Hother. And ironically she died blind. Some things fate can't change.

arya.png

Arya Stark, died blind

In the South of the Northern Overlordship, son of Howland Reed, Odgis declared independence of Greywater Watch from the Starks. His son Gorm is still an independent Lord. Jon Umber, son of Jon is still a Lord, going strong at the age of 81.

-----
In the next update the Vale, the Riverlands and King's Landing. Tomorrow hopefully :) Murmurandus good to know :D

Part Two - The Vale, King's Landing and the Riverlands

Tomorrow came early. :)

vale.png

The Iron Throne
The Kingdom of the Andals, Rhoynar, the First Men and Vale

FamilyTreeArryn.png

As you can see Jon did well for himself and his dynasty. He started the 2nd Rebellion and conquered the Iron Throne. Although he doesn't reside in King's Landing (it's owned by the Storm King) he is pretty safe in the Vale. Most of the Vale Lords and Lords north of King's Landing are his vassals. The big exception is the Lord of Redfort (light green)

The Tullys didn't do well. Edmure lost his Overlordship who is now in the hands of House Vance. Edmure's grandson Lambert still owns Riverrun. House Vance restored many lands to the Overlordship of the Riverlands lost by Edmure.
Littlefingers Dynasty, House Baelish does well. His son Mervyn is the Lord of Bitterbridge. While his direct heir and successor his grandson Bendric is the Lord of the Fingers. A title gained by Petyr.

In Part Three The Overlordships of the West and Rock & Salt.

My own views on how these occurances may have occured

Still they united the Wilds and even conquered Eastwatch. The current High Chief of the Free People is Fenni Wilderborn. A Level 9 Fighter. His father Huric deposed Mance Rayder. Mance died and his dynasty together with him.
Clearly, pride goeth before the fall - Mance clearly acted too much like those south of the Wall, so someone more traditional stepped up.

Viserys Targaryen a bastard of Aegon the Usurped's son Baelor. He's 11 but could become a real good character
Knowing the Targaryens he could just as well turn out like his namesake.

Jorah Mormont never married his beloved from the south
Likely the never even met.

Bran become the knight he always wanted to become
Curious, since having downloaded the mod myself I've seen Bran, Rickon, and Eddison Arryn show up as well (But not the Stark girls, strangely enough).

Sansa married a low Ruler of Overton and died childless
All things considered, that was probably a fate she preferred.

His son Mervyn is the Lord of Bitterbridge. While his direct heir and successor his grandson Bendric is the Lord of the Fingers. A title gained by Petyr.

Considerable influence, but not powerful enough that you become a target. Sounds like him.

So I got this mod, because I heard a Song of Ice and Fire was good, and a game conversion of it was awesome.

But I know very little about the series, so I looked it up on TV Tropes. I now regret that. Seriously, I knew the series was absurdly grimdark and depressing, but it's a joykiller of the highest order!

I do like the mod, though. I enjoy playing the Lord of Starfall. Does the Dayne family show up in the books at all?

Great AAR so far. I found out about it on the fan site westeros, where you had a post on the frontpage. So I followed you back here and looked it up some more and saw you had an AAR going, great work so far!
Could you tell me what the lovely Cleganes are up to?

My own views on how these occurances may have occured

:D

Clearly, pride goeth before the fall - Mance clearly acted too much like those south of the Wall, so someone more traditional stepped up.

that sounds reasonable and realistic :)

Knowing the Targaryens he could just as well turn out like his namesake.

and knowing how Ironic this game came to be I wouldn't be surprised :D

Likely the never even met.

yep

Curious, since having downloaded the mod myself I've seen Bran, Rickon, and Eddison Arryn show up as well (But not the Stark girls, strangely enough).

yes I'd like to know how he did it...cause each game I get the smae kids all teh boys and Stark girls. So Grell modded it in :) pretty impressive

All things considered, that was probably a fate she preferred.

Not the Knight in shinning armor, but better than a dwarf? :p

Considerable influence, but not powerful enough that you become a target. Sounds like him.

Indeed :D he did quite well for his dynasty if you look that he only started as a one-province ruler. I've rarely seen AI do so well :)

Yes they do, altough not directly as a major character. They are spoken of. :) check out the ASoIaF wiki on the House. And I really recommend the books. they are not that grim. I would just say realistic ;)

Great AAR so far. I found out about it on the fan site westeros, where you had a post on the frontpage. So I followed you back here and looked it up some more and saw you had an AAR going, great work so far!
Could you tell me what the lovely Cleganes are up to?

Cleganse will be up in the next update as I look at Lannisport and it's vassals :)
Fun fact, one Clegane was one of my Vassals for a short while :D
Thanks :) funny you found me there :p

Good to have you all here :) welcome and hope to see you back :p

Part Three - Iron Islands and the West

west.png

The Iron Islands are a mess to say the least. The curent Overlord of Salt & Rock, Thorgrimm Drumm doesn't wield alot of power. He has only one vassal, and an army around 15k. But he does own Lannisport and Crackenhall! What happaned to the Greyjoys? well they got overconfident, they attacked three Overlords at once. Lannisters, the Rivverlands and the Reach. They did manage to surprise the West and Tywin Lannister. They took his best lands from him. While the Reach watched, the West and Rivverlands defeated Greyjoys. Balon died in battle and his vassals went into civil war. The Drumm's took over the Overlordship, but it was too late. All the vassals either switched side or are independent. Balon's great-greatgrandson is now the Lord of Banefort and owns one island. But thats about it. The Iron Islands are out of the picture for now.

The Lannisters on the other hand started really bad but their current ruler just crowned himself King! "Bonifer I". He managed to conquer back the vassals lost under Tywin. Less good for the Lannisters is the fact that Bonifer was forced to sign a new law. Elective law. And the current heir is....a Frey! More ironic by the fact that he is a grandson of Aemon Frey, the lackwit Frey. ;)

Jamie died as a King's Guard. Cercei married Amory Lorch, but she died in childbirth, like her mother. Tyrion never accomplished anything and died both wife- and childless. At least he had his whores.

And as last I give you the Lannister Royal Family Tree.

FamilyTreeLannister.png

In Part Four The Storm Realm and Dorne! Stay tuned :)
