Heh, you made the same mistake I did in my early Paradox days: .bmp pics! It takes ages for people to load them, especially if u present them 1600x1200. A miracle how you even managed to get them uploaded...

So either use jpg/gif or lower the resolution.

But otherwise a good start! :)

Woop, take it as a point of me being dumb, hehe. I redid them as PNG, my favorite file type... they got like 1/8th the size so should be better (I'm hosting off my own comcast space)

Thanks for the praise :)

“HOORAY!!” Cheers resounded, wine and champagne glasses clinking together. The clock’s birdie clucked out its 12 clucks as confetti fell to the floor. Roosevelt, who had a smile on his face as big as his party hat, excused himself after the cheering into his private chambers in the White House.
The oaken doors swung easily as Roosevelt wheeled behind his presidential desk, looking at the files that had been left there… Notes from various financial representatives, banking groups, and other beneficiaries. The compilation known as the “New Deal.” Relief, Recovery, Reform. The words were etched into his head.
Slowly, he cleared off those files to the side, and unrolled the map of his country:

1-1.png

The United States – 1936
Checking his notes one last time, Roosevelt carefully laid out his plans for the capstone of the New Deal – a revitalization of the American Industry, and a new way to get from one side of the country to the next: An upgraded transcontinental railroad. Future historians would look back and see his efforts as the beginnings of the push towards interstate highway systems.

Planning the Reinforcement of the Railroad
A day later, on January 2nd, 1936 the president received a notice from the congress: his plan had been pushed through, ever so slimly.

1-3.png

The Congressional Letter
Immediately, he sent the notice of construction off to the Union-Pacific and other railroads. His decision to give yet more work to the American people would have far more resounding affects than anyone could have predicted…

The order to build is made…

Roosevelt was once again peering over his New Deal documents in his office. The orders to build and reinforce the railroad were already dispatched to the rail companies, but technology companies didn’t see any reason to try and speed up the process…
“We just don’t see any need to try and make the railroad bigger. All its doing is giving jobs, it won’t come in use to anyone by tourists.”
Inane comments, not realizing the true potential of a good supply system. Summed up R.’s thought processes. He had a deep dark feeling that all was not well in the world…
The world seems to be spiraling out of control as King Goerge V dies in the United Kingdom. Seizing an opportunity, Roosevelt immediately packs his bags and sets off for Britain…

The death of King George and a chance for friendliness

February 11th, 1936
The Bear has used the opportunity to sneak a bug into the presidential office. Roosevelt is furious and heads home in order to beat his Head of Intelligence around… and finds out that the Japanese have already tried to rectify the situation…

2-2.png

The Japanese seem to have America’s interests in mind… or do they?

Back at home, Roosevelt soon sets back at trying to get his railroad project back on track, so to speak (and his pun writer is summarily executed).

The world going down into flames…

((Current plan is 1 update a day of 5 or so pics, whatever length that ends up being, until some more... excitement... occurs ;) ))

March 7th, 1936
Still furious that his plans have not yet been picked up by anyone, Roosevelt nearly drops his cup of morning tea (drunken in secret, of course) when he hears the news…

3-1.png

The Rhineland
His fears fall on deaf ears however, as most of the American people are still preoccupied with problems at home… “They will learn!” Roosevelt is heard to yell…

3-2.png

This is what they really should care about…
3-3.png

But instead…
3-4.png

And the Congress wasn’t much better
Indeed, the next few months had more of the same: Countries electing right or left, coups, bear spies, and the general increase of spittle upon Roosevelts carpeted floor. Things started looking bleak for his railroad future, when something else had come into his head.
“Its time to choose the next government funded research project, comra—sir.”
The voice jaunted Roosevelt from his normal reverie…
Of course… how could I have been so naïve… I need to show these people that my interests are the greatest ones of all! But I’ll have to do it slowly…

3-5.png

The beginning of the end of the beginning

((This marks the end of the *boring* updates, and the beginning of the "What The Hell" updates))

Looks good. Cant wait for the what the hell updates! :D

“And with that, I finish my proposal to the Congress of this research opportunity. I apologize for the picture of a “tank”, as it was the only one that I could find. I summarily exec—fired my producer.”
The gavel pounded, a resounding clapping occurring from the members of Congress. They had pushed through this idea, but only because Roosevelt had agreed to take out the budget from his own salary… Better to be poor than dead he believed.

4-1.png

The Finished Proposal, due by Early October
Almost as if by a show of righteousness, the world responded to the news of a renewed USA industrial initiative.

4-2.png

By the Immortal Words of the General ThriceDeadCat: Derp Occurs
Roosevelt is known to have put forward the idea that this day will live in infamy as “National Derp Day”, though the phrase wouldn’t mean much until later in history. Roosevelt used the opportunity to try and make an excuse to increase nationalized productivity, but the words fell on deaf ears: Americans just didn’t care about any “coups” “de’s” or “ta’s”.
Strike Two for the People…

June 6th, 1936
This is Dee Eee Are Puh Radio with the following news: “Italy has annexed Ethiopia. In similar news, Oil has been discovered. Support groups for the National “We Care About Cars” Association are calling for lowered gas prices…

4-3.png

Oil and Country. They go hand in hand.

Other countries respond in much the same way America did:

4-4.png

Strike Two-and-a-Half

And yet this was still not the end. The world was going down in flames, and only Roosevelt could see it…

4-5.png

Strike Two-and-Three-Quarters!

Yup thats what the hell alright...whats with the strikes?

Without going too far into character development, Roosevelt is tired of the American people only caring about their own country. They barely grunt at the notion of another country at war or at a trans-national Railroad to the Gods, but care so much about oil and cars and anything American that its maddening (to him). You'll understand more in the future updates :)

Also from another person: Screenshot of your tech development - where did you put that tech?

There be spoilers if you look hard enough

July 4th, 1936
Roosevelt celebrated the Independence Day events quietly and solemnly, though he gave smiles for all of the reporters. Inwardly, he roiled, as his move to push the railroad modernization forward had still had no discernable effect… His advisors told him that it would begin “soon”, but that was well over a half of a year ago. Roosevelt felt that his time was being wasted, and soon began finding himself thinking through how best he could make his dreams a reality…
There must be something I can do… Maybe, if I put on a veil… just like now…

There!

5-1.png

For Kids!

Of course, the world had a way of weaseling into Roosevelt’s plans… The Spanish had decided that they could no longer stand the repression that was caused without bloodshed on May 20th…

5-2.png

The War Begins
The British and French did nothing, but the Bear decided to help the Republicans, and the Italians and Germans went towards the Nationalists. The people weren’t concerned with who was helping whom, but that people were dabbling in international affairs… Roosevelt saw through the veil, however…

5-3.png

The Picture that Defined the War until at least October…
Things were progressing with Project RR, and Roosevelt was happy enough to look at other projects that went his way, including a research and development surrounding things named “rockets”… Hmm… rocket propelled trains… Great idea or greatest idea…
However, a few days before the research paid off, some of the workers in the Indiana cover-plant striked due to bad labor laws. They were soon put down--- or paid well, as known to reporters…

5-4.png

The Cover, almost blown…
Finally… the research ended… the fruits of Roosevelts labor… had only begun.
Muahahahahaha!

The end of the end of the beginning of the… you know what I quit!
DERP Radio: “A public writer was found dead today; police report that ‘someone’ did it…”

October 11th, 1936
The Derp celebrations continue as Panama decides to join in the party. Their previous president joins Roosevelt in his office, the canal in potential danger.
“Sir, I apologize for being ousted. I am unsure of what will happen to the canal, though I don’t believe the new government is aggressive or belligerent.”
Roosevelt responded, his voice full of darkness: “It’s quite alright… you just didn’t have enough railroads…”
“Sir?”
Roosevelt did not respond….

The National Elections Day… Roosevelt had run against Landon, a man ‘without any knowledge of the locomotive’ according to R. While a somewhat strange thing to say, the election was still a landslide, in no small part due to the work of one man… Mj. General ThriceDeadCat

6-2.png

The winners of the election of 1936
The MG, already famous for his National Derp Day, the MG had outdone himself by doing the one thing Roosevelt couldn’t – start the Railroad project.

6-3.png

Seen here with his trust steed in Colorado… Wait a minute…
Now ThriceDeadCat was a man with a plan – using his experience in business, he managed to get the very first piece of the railroad under construction…

6-4.png

Roosevelt shed tears of joy

Of course, he couldn’t keep it hidden forever…

6-5.png

The people got wind!
But it deterred neither TDC nor Roosevelt… the very first pike was placed on Christmas Eve, 1936… It would be the pike to end all pikes…

And then, on January 2nd, 1936
Roosevelt came out to the reporters, saying: “I have a New Years Resolution. My projects and ambitions have been held back by the Congress for too long! I will see to it that this year, my railroad gets started, everwhere! Not just Denver, not just Chicago, not just New York, but everywhere! Now… where is my official Emergency Pen of Doo- Awesomeness…”

6-6.png

As they say, “The best way to the heart of the people is through the nationalization of industry”

Part of the sillyness is the fact that there are still the idle runs of ships and infantry before the infra. Otherwise they'd be done with the first run. I'm using it as a set-up for the story more than anything, since Its going to finish right around a certain date that will make more sense when it comes.

I'll be honest, this isn't a serious AAR full of historical information. Its real gameplay with a ton of sillyness and not-making-sense-noobness. So, please take that with a grain of salt :)

I'm more writing a story and playing a silly game of USA rather than trying to be a serious AAR writer lol. Hopefully it showcases a different type of AAR o.o...
dunno why I'm trying to explain so hard, its just an AAR afterall XD

7-1.png

The Anti-Bear Pact
The tabloids ran through all the news stations, even those in America. Apparently, an Anti-comintern pact had been signed by the three major fascist nations. This intrigued Roosevelt, though not for the obvious reasons. Instead, he saw that the people had actually noticed an event outside of the scope of the country. The problem was that it took something extremely large to grab their attention…
Roosevelt was still glad that the event occurred, simply because it took away focus from his Railroad nationalization. Indeed, he was all giddy with excitement, as the inevitable occurred on February 28th, 1937…

7-2.png

The very first piece of railroad
The city of Denver, Colorado had built its first line, to the north of the city. It was now focusing on expending it in both directions – East and West, in order to integrate with the planned railroad system. People gathered there to watch the unfolding and ribbon cutting event, which was quaint if not a happy event. The very first station would open for service later that year as the existing rail lines were connected to the eventual interstate track. Mj. General TDC would later comment: “It was a great event. I never thought I’d live the day to see my horse be able to push a railcart on the international railway… today was that day!”

May 23rd, 1937
Further developments in the railroad industry led to the discovery of the “Basic Armored Railway Transport System” or, in laymans terms, “Moving Big Stuff, Yo”. The discovery once again pushed forward the building of the railroad as newer techniques were applied to old plans. Luckily, it had seemed that the delays were actually a good thing – with the improvement in plans happening before the major construction, there would be no fears of having to reverse-rig the tracks themselves. The railroad could simply be upgraded to the new design as it was being built.

7-3.png

The BART continued to increase building efficiency
Indeed, on May 29th, the second section of the railway in Denver was constructed. This rail would allow most of the surrounding suburbs to have a rail connection that would soon encompass the country. Several smaller stations began to operate on this rail, showing increasing profits with the large changes in design allowed for the interstate rail. Roosevelt’s hope of people beginning to see the amazing importance of such a system was increasing.

However, as before, whenever The USA had something good happen to them, something balanced the karma on the other side for the rest of the world…

7-4.png

Further DERP occurs. Note Com. China’s Entrance into the war ((We’ll see if they can last x.x))

But this time it was a little different… Congress responded with the Pitman Act. Suddenly, people were a little bit more interested in the outside world. Roosevelt quickly capitalized on the occasion, declaring that if the Pitman Act were to succeed the Nation would need more factories. Amazingly… the people responded positively.

7-5.png
7-6.png

The Chinese need our help, and to help them we need more rail---supply industry!
It would only further cement the way in which Roosevelt felt about his plans for railroad expansion in the United States… and beyond.

((Custom Event: Lend-Lease as per 1942 LL act + 3 militia/event = total 15 militia + 5 IC + tons of free resources))

It had seemed that the USSR had the same interests as the USA, as they gave their own assistance to the Chinese in what was then known as Operation Zet.

8-1.png

Operation Zet
Though the move was surprising, it did little more than raise eyebrows in America. Unfortunately, the help from both the USA and USSR did little to bolster the spirits of shanxi, which was annexed in July

8-2.png

Annexation of the Shanxi
But in late August, the news once again turned towards internal relations. Apparently, the new station in Denver had broken the all-time passenger record in the city, and it was cause for quite a celebration around the country – Roosevelts ideas weren’t complete hogwash!

8-3.png

No dissent you say?
Then, in late October, the Denver Municipal Transit Train Org announced their completion of the integration and building of the interstate train system. The system was ready to be connected to other tracks in other states, and the successful integration spurned further construction. Passenger input and output at the connected station tripled in several days over the enjoyment of the newest technology available to the people.

The rest of the year passed relatively quietly, and the war in China had put America towards wondering a little bit more about its own war stance – It definitely wouldn’t do well to simply sit like a dove but rather meet similar problems headlong.

8-4.png

War update in China

Ultimately, the station in Denver spurred several other regions into developing their part of the tracks – Roosevelt was ecstatic, and was heard to be laughing gleefully.

8-5.png

The First Run
However, he soon retreated to his chambers… and rumors inside the White House suggested that the Interstate Train System was not the end of Roosevelts Grand Plans…

February 9th, 1937
China, while helped by USA and USSR, is not being helped by Germany, as they recall their mission from Manchuko. It is theorized that Japan may be setting up a new puppet state by the war cabinet, but the truth is yet hidden in shadow.

9-1.png

The End of the German Mission

Instead, the news again centers on another American revelation: Cleveland has finished its section of the ITS, and has dubbed their connection to the local railways as the “Rapid Transit System” governed by the later-known entity: RTA. Their train stations undergo the same commuter increases seen in Denver.
Of course, the world always saw fit to be the pendulum to Americas Greatness, so on February 24th…

9-2.png

Seriously? What is going on in the world…
Of course, this time the USA was prepared, as Indianapolis followed suit of Cleveland and Denver in late March. The first passengers traveled from Indianapolis to Cleveland later that evening, causing celebration in both cities.

A day later, the world once again responded with its own development, the Anschluss.

9-3.png

The Anschluss of Austria
Roosevelt felt troubled by the events – it would mean an increase in German Railroad industry, and he definitely didn’t want any other country to overshadow his dreams of being a railroad tycoon.

Even the completion of the Harrisburg ITS (Interstate Transportation System) did not raise Roosevelt’s grim hopes… He would have to figure out a way to outdo anyone else.

Early in May, Chicago added its stations to the list of stations having connections to the ITS. The newly built “Roosevelt Line” would connect right to the future known Union Station, causing a renewed effort in inter-city rail construction. Peoria would connect to the industrial city later in June.

Overall the railroad projects continued being finished by the month… Roosevelt kept his industrial plan going full steam ahead.

In international matters, the Spanish and Chinese wars were still at a standstill, though a skirmish between USSR troops and Japanese soldiers was reported in early August.

9-4.png

They would wonder what happened that day

Indeed, the news of crazy national and international events seemed to die down for some time, until the very last day of September, when the world once again decided to throw another spin at Roosevelt…

9-5.png

Germany gets some hills… with RR in them

The United States People responded to such acts of belligerence… by striking. It was said Roosevelt did his own striking – with his palm to his head.

10-1.png

The rest of the year occurred without much incident, and political analysts commented on the seemingly large increase in USA foreign interest. Roosevelt declined, mentioning that his railroad was a fully “National and American-only project”.

For some reason, the Soviets got angry at this public outrage (?)

10-2.png

Goodness they must not like national projects?

10-3.png

The Germans had their own things to say as well!

Meanwhile, Bolivia had “another militaristic coup” happen, as their news reported. Apparently the apathy was palpable. Romania soon followed suit with their own “Sudden Change in Government”. Roosevelt was quick to comment that “Their reporters needed hang… improvement.”

Once again quiet, the world shouted out on March 15th, as Germany once again seemed to expand into industrial lands…

10-4.png

Slovakia Puppet Show

10-5.png

Lithuanian Memel
Italy soon followed suit in Albania…

10-6.png

Poor King Zod, never able to ride Roosevelts Railroad…

And Poland decided to join the Aliance of Allies. Roosevelt felt this to be an important point in his ledger, as it was circled and underlined several times. Alliances, they allow you to have some concessions otherwise unable to procure… perhaps… I need an alliance…
He then quietly shut his door, looking over to read a report titled “Super-Heavy Railway Artillery and You – 101 ways to disassemble a railway artillery.”
In early July, The Japanese, finally having made some headway into China (roughly 3 more provinces), organize Mengkukuo into a nation. It is unknown for what purpose this nation was created…

10-7.png

Mengkukuo
Then… on August 29th, 1939… Roosevelt took the podium.
“Today is an important day for America. The final piece of the Interstate Transportation System, or as some call it the Interstate Railway System or Roosevelt Railroad, was laid down earlier this week in Seattle. The final station was opened just yesterday, and the customers have begun riding the rails. It is a proud day, to be an American, with the finest infrastructure system known in the world. I implore you, my fellow Americans, to use this system as much as you feel like, for it is guaranteed to last our lifetimes, and longer. Our children and our children’s children will remember the day that the final pike was laid down by me, our president.” He then took a mallet, and brought down the final pike on the railroad spur in Washington DC. It was the end of an era…

And the beginning of a new one:

10-8.png

Roosevelt was pale, his secretary wore a worried face…
“Mr President?”

“Sir? Are you alright? I need you to talk to the press about this development.”
The president nodded, and went to the press for the second time in 24 hours.
He held his hands on the podium and spoke simply: “We will answer this aggression against our fine railway.” He stepped down among bewildered and confused reporters. He walked again into the White House, and picked up the Red Telephone and spoke: “Begin phase 1 of RagnaRooseRok.”

10-9.png

South Africa soon declared Neutrality once it gained wind of RagnaRooseRok

This marks the end of Part 1, next post in the coming week or so.
