Roosevelt hides in his office, away from the protesters outside, yelling “Bring back Canada!”
He had just received information that the Soviets had not decided to flood the Donetz River…

16-1.png

Roosevelt had planned on a reaction to his process, but the Quebecian government seemed to be telling everyone that “They were just like Canada. Just more French”. It wasn’t working terribly well but at least Roosevelt didn’t have to worry about the Canadians revolting against his own government…

Instead, he looked south…
16-2.png

This time, the people starting going up in arms, waving signs reading “We don’t want war!” and “Peace is only a few railroad provinces away!”
16-3.png

But this did not stop Lt General TDC and his newly acquired Dune Buggy.
16-4.png

16-5.png

Here seen attacking the capitol

The British, Angry at the American declaration of War against the Canadians, couped Iran, which joined the war summarily on their side in early October.

The French meanwhile, decided to perform a port strike on Miami…
16-6.png

Roosevelt was intrigued by this action, and rebased the Pacific fleet to the Atlantic in preparation to rebuff the attacks.

The fleet didn’t attack after that however….

Finally, on December 1st, 1941, President Roosevelt gave the same deal he gave to the Canadians. Give him the provinces he needed, and he’d let the Government go. In addition, he “promised to give the land back once the railroad was built, as long as they didn’t do anything to it.”

16-7.png

They accepted
Roosevelt sent a letter that night to a certain man…

---

Closest guess to the dissent I have gets the next HQ named after them :p

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the same in AoD, but doesn't the US turn Communist if it gets 65% dissent or higher?

I believe the event choice is fascist or communist.

I guess we'll find out XD

As long as they support glorious railroads.

The newly acquired territory, named the “North American Train Corridor” didn’t sit well with most American people. Revolts around some provinces in the country continued, and Roosevelt dealt with partisans the best way he knew – execution.

17-1.png

In addition, the first Nuclear Reactor came online in Chicago. Roosevelt immediately started to use the facility to test out his latest theoretical designs – the nuclear rocket train engine. Most scientists thought it impossible (or at least impractical) but did not speak out for fear of their lives.

17-2.png

The rest of December passed by without incident other than a Russian “Vlassov”. By January, Roosevelt knew that the Congress – or what was left of Congress that supported him – would need to be convinced that the project was a good idea. “America must be involved with foreign affairs! It is the only way this project can be done and torn countries put back together, with rail pikes!”
With that, Roosevelt pulled back his divisions from the Mexican Southern Border, though they would take a long time to get through customs.
The only army remaining in Mexico was TDC and his failboat, poised to “protect and serve” the southern train borders.

The situation had dire effects on American Research – many scientists opposed Roosevelt, and so the country would suffer a long-term intellectual depression, which many historians would agree severely hampered Roosevelt’s plan.

Roosevelt himself was not too worried about these developments. He let people think that he was done with war for the time, and let the situation settle as the troops came home.

By late March, however, the situation had not yet been stabilized. The Chicago reactor and the Denver Rocket Sites were almost destroyed by the angry public. Roosevelt was furious, turning his eyes away from the conflict at home and towards the North American Train Corridor

17-3.png

People are unhappy

17-4.png

The plan?

International News did not detract the American People from this great atrocity: Republican Spain could annex Nationalist Spain every day for what they cared.

Finally, the people had had enough, and The White House came under direct attack. Forseeing this event, Roosevelt had fled only a few hours before the building burned down and a new government was installed, headed by Norman Thomas.

17-5.png

Great Plan or Greatest Plan?
Thomas immediately put all of his available resources (which admittedly were scarce in the nation) towards keeping the country in one piece.

17-6.png

Quite a feat

In late May, the situation was quite grim, as supplies were running low for the peace-keeping corps of Thomas. He needed a way to fix the situation, and quickly, before his forces were wiped out by lack of supplies.

Suddenly, the phone rang…

Holy sheet at the partisans, if they win, I wonder if the US will be reborn as Fascist. (We might see California or the CSA soon)

I see you went with Norman Thomas, best of luck to him.

Theres really 2 ways to go from here (I even have 2 save files! :O ).
One is the non-cheaty "play (poorly) until the partisans conquer and reform the US"
One is the cheaty "history keeps being silly and delivers safety for a few months."

Its kind of a toss up, mostly depends on what people really want. Considering that this AAR is not realistic AT ALL (woo 100% dissent at one point), I'm tempted to continue doing the "safety and craziness at the last moment" but I dunno what the audience wants :p

EDIT: it actually seems like I can salvage the situation as well, so there's option 3: SAVE THE USA

I say we need another revolution, I love those. But it is really up to you as you're the Author. I say play Japan some.

In the meantime, the armies went from “strategic defense” to “retake lost territory mode”, as many of the army did not hear from the White House that day.

18-1.png

But would it be enough?

The army wouldn’t have to wait long. With the annexation of Honduras in early April, the message which shook the foundation of trains to come rang into Thrice Dead Cats HQ…

03:00 Hours. April 1st, 1942. Message from White House to Mj. General Thrice Dead Cat.

This is Norman Thomas. You are to continue with the plan. The North American Train Corridor is to be continued. Enclosed is a tape which you must never let any German or Japanese hear.

The Message reads: Thomas. I see you enjoy my amenities well. I trust there has been no issue in taking over other than the general riots?
‘No sir. Everyone is too pissed off looking for you to look at what I’m doing. Why are you calling me, I thought we had a black out for a time?’
Well you see Thomas, I’m fine. I’m more than fine… but I can’t disclose my location right now. Suffice to say you should be getting something in the mail that will make this all easier for you…

FROM BRITISH AMBASSIDOR: We, the UK, previously at a state of war with the US, have decided declare peace, in exchange for secrecy to the Germans who are bogged down in the USSR. END MESSAGE.

18-2.png

The secret agreement was the first step in rebuilding the country and rebuilding trust in the UK government. Neither Thomas nor TDC understood why the UK had chosen this manner of diplomacy, but they were both quite happy with it.

The situation in the country would tip from “OH GOD WHAT DID I DO” to “Ok we can fix this” over the next week.

18-3.png

See?

This news was followed by Nicuraguas annexation. The NATC would continue in spite of the difficulties involved.

18-4.png
When Panama and Costa Rica heard the news, they decided to go the same way. The end of continental war was a great catalyst in the clearing of dissent across the nation.

18-5.png

The international situation was much the same: Japan was stuck behind a river in China, The Philippines were discovering why being a puppet is bad, Germany was making slow progress in the USSR.

18-6.png

18-7.png

Wait what?
18-8.png

By early May, the situation in the USA had stabilized, and the armies of Thomas were slowly gaining back lost ground…

18-9.png

The clincher to the Near-Civil-War was the arrival of fresh troops from Mexico in San Diego. When asked why they took so long, the troops leaders responded: “Dramatic Effect”. They were later given military tribunals after the war.

18-10.png

By June, the rebels were all but destroyed, and the only remaining thing to do was to clean up and go home… oh and rebuild the entire railway system
18-11.png

----

So yeah. The dissent decreases were there for the sake of getting below 65% dissent. I powered through at that high dissent to the place you all see now XD. See also: the AI taught me how to handle the situation lol

Nice job regaining the nation, I;d rather be Left-Wing Radical over Social Liberal, but I recommend to become Stalinist, the more Authoritarian you are, the better if you're wanting to take over nations for railroads.

The cleanup was surprisingly fast. By Late June, the biggest partisan battle in Las Cruces was almost won

19-1.png

Fighting the good fight
By early July, the situation was stable enough to consider the partisans defeated

19-2.png

19-3.png

19-4.png
The situation would remain somewhat stable well into August – it had seemed the threat was over for the nation. The cleanup would take well into the future.
19-5.png

The stage of the international war seemed to follow American progress – The Japanese had not even tried to take American islands, leading to a Pacific Phony War. The Germans had found some weaknesses and had made a small amount of headway into Russia, but not enough for a breakthrough.

Event through this phoney period, the infrastructure of the country was rebuilt, with the second Nuclear reactor coming online in late October. It seemed that while on the outside everything was peachy (if somewhat revolting), inside the machinations of war never changed.

A strange development occurred in early November, as a partisan division in Panama resulted in the nation being recreated. The new Panama would be faced down by several divisions, and would be threatened by none other than… Brazil…
Brazil joined the war against panama and Thomas was faced with an interesting decision. The country was not in the direct line of the original planned railroad, and having a southern ally would prove useful in the future.
After a few days deciding, Thomas knew what his predecessor would have done…

Meanwhile, The Japanese took advantage of the situation to take Communist China. It seemed like the red menace there would be down for the count unless the country could reassemble itself…

There would be a picture here, normally (ss didn't capture)

19-6.png
The end of the year brought a more interventionist policy to the nation. The wounds were healing, but they would take a long time to realize the cancer that had spread underneath…

How come the US only has 52 IC even with most of the Union together again?

Its now over 100 native by January.

Its actually a combination. See that huge amount of IC going towards province repair? Remember that province efficiency now has an effect on IC. Because the %repair is lower than 100%, it is a negative % effect on base IC. Its all in the manual :p

Its growing fast though, as mentioned.
