Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody has figured out how resources are distributed in the map, does it work on the general priniciple that the more exotic (hence more expensive to buy and sell) are distributed lower in the map, or are all resources just randomly scattered throughout the map?

If they are distributed by the more exotics being lower in the map does anybody know what levels then contain a chance of what resources will be on them? For example levels 1 though 5 might have stone, iron, and that pink stone, and dragonfarce can only be found on levels between 20 and 30 etc.

Thanks

Well, resources could still be distributed on a level system and you just didn't have any in your starting base but digging down a level or two you found some if they have it set to where resources spawn on multiple levels like tourmaline spawns on levels 1 through levels 14 and dragonfarce spawns on levels 25 to level 30 or something like that.

I would think that if it's completely random then we'd find things like the dragonfarce spawning on level 8 or level 4 etc but that doesn't seem to be the case for me so far, but since I'm only a single player so the sample rate of only one players experience compared with how many players have bought this game is far too small to draw a conclusion.

If on the other hand I ever find dragonfarce on my starting layer then I think I could conclude that it's completely and totally randomly distributed.

If anybody else has input please, well... input it here so that we can try to get a better understanding how the resource distribution model works in a game of beardies.

From what i have seen so far (on 7th level of campaign, with one restart in there due to a crash), there appears to be a level restriction on some of the resources. I have yet to see Marble, Dreadstone, Titanium, Platinum, and Dragonforce above something like level 16 or so (or was it level 20?), and the lower level resources like Iron, Stone and such tend to only spawn above that same level. Fertile Soil appears to be tied directly to that spawn system as a low level resource, as I never see it spawning below the same level.

It seems like the last row before the edge of the map never has any resources.
Also, some campaign maps have different spawn rules. There is at least one campaign map with marble on level 2.

But you need to remember that the campaign maps as predeisgned maps. There are not too much random left in them. Certain resources have been placed in certain places to guide your Diggers in to areas.

Okay, on the custom large map here is what I've seen so far...

Layer 13
Dragonforce, Obsidian, Marble & Titanium
This is the first level that I've seen any of these resources on so far. I have also seen gold and silver on this level which is leading me to believe that perhaps gold and silver are spread out on all levels of the maps not starting and stopping on any specific levels like some other resources might do.

When I speak of a layer like above (Layer 13) I am taking that from the UI on the lower right side of the screen, I mention this because somebody had corrected me in the past telling me that the ground layer is not really layer 0, so I'm not going to try to guess what layer I am on and only go by what the game UI tells me I'm on.

I'm still digging on new maps to see if the above changes and that I might find it anywhere between ground layer and layer 13, so far in the maps that I've tried I've not seen it, but again, I'm only one person so could be the roll of the dice when the map was created.

I wouldn't say there's "not too much random" left in them. Campaign levels have various rooms, objects, undigium, fertilized soil, and veins pre-placed, but as far as I can tell every other block follows normal level generation rules. For example, a starting position may have random amounts of silver, stone, and fertilized soil visible in addition to the guaranteed soil blocks in most (all? haven't finished) campaign levels.
