I played the Northern War scenario as Denmark and experienced an odd problem:
In the game Holstein is an independent nation with 1 province. When the scenario starts they, and Sweden, are at war with Denmark, and I decided to knock them out of the war first. So I send a large army with lots of artillery and captured Holstein.
The Danish flag flew over the capitol and the province told me, that the province was controlled by Denmark, but owned by Holstein. Naturally I wanted to annex Holstein, so I opened the diplomatic window. Here I was told, that I had destroyed the Holstein nation, and I had 7 stars or so, but the only available option was to demand tribute, offer a peace with tribute or pay tribute.
How do I annex them?
