Sounds good to me :)

We'll redesign a lot of stuff. I'll rewrite a lot of the config file so things make more sense for the game era. Another point regarding England & the Normans... I suggest we start the game after Hastings, and let the user play as an England which has just been conquered by the Normans. By doing so, not only can we avoid having to find an accurate coat of arms & flag for West-Saxon england, but we can skip the horrible mess of having to script an alternate universe, for if England repels the invaders.

Does that sound okay to you? Clearly I'm not basing all of Europe around this scenario, but it's a major part of continental history and it's just so much easier if we assume it happened ;)

Otherwise we could make in such a one-sided way that Hastings can't be avoided and that we just stick to either the lonely lion or some shit. A very bad possiblity is to have no shield at all but that's a bit idotic, no?

We could certainly find out, it just might prove difficult as the whole notion of heraldry (a French idea in itself) was only brought to England with the Normans.

Regarding Hastings, I think that making it a no-option would be the best idea. We can do it so England loses stability and has revolts in the south, and then becomes a vassal of Normandy and the monarchs simply carry on as normal. This way we needn't have dormant monarchs and whatnot (not yet, anyway) and it makes everything a lot easier.

So Saxon England exists until the end of 1066 (Hastings was in October, I believe).

The Norman events would of course increase stability greatly, and make England their vassal. For both countries, relations with Scandinavia would plumett.

You don't mean Saxon England as a free tag? And shouldn't it be the other way around with England vassalising Normandy?

No, no. England is the same tag. I merely meant Saxon England with regards to the Saxons who were its kings pre-Hastings :)

I think Normandy should vassalise England after the battle. Afterall, William of Normandy had conquered England, and not the other way round. He was a Norman, and the English were Anglosaxons. He'd conquered them and they were a vassal of the Normans. :)

The vassalage will be broken by event later on at some point. Besides, England won't own any land on the continent at this point, so there's no chance of Normandy ever annexing England.

Hmmm... How about adding french culture and removing saxon/anglosaxon? IIRC, the normans was extremely favored and the saxons where, well, 'discriminated' if you can call it that.

Naturally :)

I'll explain the culture system later when I have some time :)

Basically, England will begin angloxaxon, with the exceptions of Wales & Cornwall, which will be gaelic.

When the Normans invade, they will replace the state culture of England with french , and I will create a Reformation Mod-style system in which England's provinces slowly turn from anglosaxon to anglonorman.

With Edward III, England will lose french as a state culture, as it was during his reign that Normandy and Guyenne began to try and distance themselves from the English monarchy, and also it was during Edward's reign that English replaced French as the language of England with regards to official documents and ceremonies, etc etc.

... And how do you know there will be a Cornwall? :p What if I make a total über-England? :D

Nah, just kidding. That's an interesting term, 'Anglonorman'. Never heard before though I trust you on this matter.
