How do I incorporate a event I made into a savegame?

How do I do this, I create a new event file for my savegame as I want to add an event but when I load up my game and run the event via f12, nothing happens! Why? However when I start a new game it works, but my event is made for specific savegames.

I see that most AARs create events for their nation as they go, but how do I do this?

Add it to an already existing event file, which is already used by the savegame.
