This is a format I don't recognize. I can open it with WordEdit, but I can't save it back out as a .yml extension, hence I can't edit it. What am I missing here? I'm assuming the game requires the .yml extension in order to read the files.

Most Paradox modders use Notepad++, which can handle .yml files and is generally a really good text editor. If you don't want to change editors, you should be able to save it as a .txt file and manually rename it in the file explorer to .yml. If WordEdit gives you a dropdown list to select the file type on save, you could also try selecting nothing (usually at the top of the list as a *, if it exists) and manually type .yml in the filename field. That works with some editors.

As for the format, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YAML

You can just use regular notepad, set the file type as all files when saving and add .yml to the save file name. That is how I always save files with different extensions.

Thanks a million for this! Just to expand on that, I found a more convenient way: If I associate all .yml files with the notepad program when I open it up for the first time, if I simply save the file while it's opened, it automatically retains its .yml extension.

You also have to rembember the encoding, notpad has a tendency of screwing that up, personally i'd recomend Notepad++, free, easy to use, and dont mess with such stuff.
