How do I skip the intro movies?

The intro movies run *every time* I start EU2.

Is it possible to change this?

Starting up the game is slow as it is, and I'd be very grateful if I didn't have to press ESC twice *every time* I want to play the game.

If it is possible to cut back on the loading time I'd like any suggestions on that as well. My PII 450MHz 128Mb machine takes roughly one minute to complete the loading screen. Most of this time the progress bar is halted at "initializing graphics".

rename the AVI folder to AVI_OLD (or delete it).

Invest in more RAM. 256mb would be good

I tried that. The games started without the movies alright,
but it crashes whenever I choose F10+"Surrender" to play another scenario etc.

Is there no better solution? I'm hoping for a switch to start with, for example "eu2.exe -nomovies" or something...

Regarding more memory: you're probably right :-(

I don't think the two are related; the CTD on surrender is a known issue and might be corrected in patch 1.06.

It's true that the game on occasion has crashed when exiting (surrendering). But that only happens once in a while.

When I renamed the avi folder, however, it always crashes. And when I restored the folder's name (and rebooted) it started working again. So I don't think renaming that folder is a particulary good solution. Although I appreciate the suggestion.

My question thus remains. Can you turn off the movies? Put another way, do YOU view the intro movies every time you want to play EU/EU2? Or do you press ESC twice every time to go to the loading screen?

I cannot believe Paradox hasn't coded a way to bypass this irritation: many games run the intro once, and then you can see it again by choosing a menu item within the game.

So my hope for a good solution remains.

no, there is no way to remove the movies, except for renaming/deleting the AVI folder.

Maybe replacing the files in the AVI folder with empty (0 byte) files but with the same filenames will work?

maybe... as a test, try to create some empty text files and name them as per the name of the intro movies.

or try renaming the movies to other names (extension)
