How do you guys and gals do it? Quick Research tips...

Having read a number of posts in the forums, it seems to me that I don't research nearly as fast as everyone else. I hear people maxing out land tech prior to 1700, and I feel like my budding empires are bums because we are barely maxing out any research by the end of the game. How do you do it? Most of the time, I am receiving no ducats from my monthly income, as it is all going to research. I am also 95% of the time at stability +3 (except as Russia, as per ToT). Also, the AI seems to be one step ahead of me in research to, not that it helps them any, as I can still annihilate any level 6 fortress I come across by using 600 cannon amd 100,000 troops. \

So tell me, oh great FAQ masters, how you finish research so quickly?

Use an earlier patch version

Your note about the troops gives a clue. When you are not at war lower the maint for troops and ships and increase elsewhere.... otherwise dont worry, we all play differently.

Well thank you m'am...

Actually the pure mechanics of the game leave me cold. I dont really get into the details of why and how etc. I just play the game for fun and take whatever Johan (The guy behind it all) throws at me. Even if he didnt intend some of the actions/results that come up I just put it down to "Alls fair in love and war".
That is why I never try to answer questions of that ilk - BiB and Huszics (to name just some) are the guys for that.
