Hi,
I'm new to Paradox's forum despite having owned EU3, Vicky2 and HOI3 for about a year now. Growing up I've always been a fan of Koei's Nobunaga's Ambition series. Since it seems like Koei is done releasing the series in english, i guesss I'm done buying the game. I just ordered Sengoku and I'm wondering how it compares to say Iron Triangle and how's it different?

No overpowered Takeda. Makes it a big plus compared to NA.

They are similar. If you liked NA, you should be able to enjoy Sengoku. Have you seen any youtube videos of Sengoku in action?

Yeah, I watched a "let's play" of the game, it looks similar in some ways.
I see it starts in 1467 or something like that, almost 100 years before the rise of Nobunaga. If I play long enough as the Oda clan will Nobunaga be born into the game or are children of daimyos and lords created randomly by the computer and not based on historical figures?
All in all the game should be fun and let me get my sengoku fix.

There is a bookmark that starts at 1551, I think, and you can choose to be Nobunaga. I can't check now, but I think this is correct. I chose to be Hojo, and ran out of time.

Edit: I knew all the numbers but not the right order. :p

You mean 1651, right? ;)

Sengoku is much less arcade-y than the Nobunaga No Yabou series (mostly because you don't play out tactical battles, which is where most of the Nobunaga arcade flavor plays out). As Drakken alluded to, Sengoku is far more realistic since there aren't daimyo 'supermen' that make winning a lot easier (whether it's Oda, Uesugi, or Takeda). It's more up to your skilll as a player and also the dumb luck of who the other leaders of Japan decide to throw in with-success needs both skill and luck, just as the real Sengoku did. You also can play as lower level leaders in Sengoku, which is almost like playing a whole new style of game.

Somewhere we have a thread on the board where we talk more about Sengoku vs Nobunaga No yabou, but I have no idea where it is....

If you start in 1467, you are unlikely to see Nobunaga appear as the game doesn't have predetermined historical paths.
However, there is also 1651 start date where Oda Nobunaga is present. However, history always takes a different turn so don't expect him to necessarily be as successful as in history... unless you play with him that is.

You should also check the MIH mod which improves gameplay and adds more bookmarks.

You guys mean 1551? I believe the war was over by 1605 or something like that.
I looking forward to its arrival since I order the CD version, I just am going to find it hard to stop playing HOI3 though. Even though it's different from the NA series I'm still looking forward to the new challenge to be Shogun.

Finally got to sit and play the game... I like it! I'm playing as the Shimazu Clan just to get a feel for the game. I did a couple experimental wars and got my ass kicked twice... I got a lot to learn, but looking forward to the challenge of another good paradox game.

Who uses era name? *boggle*

Someone who writes historical articles in Japanese (moi), where serious writing almost always uses era names for years rather than artificially converting them to Western years (which is ultimately inaccurate since the lunar year never exactly corresponds to the Western solar calendar-that's why you'll see Migatagahara listed as both 1572/1573 and the raid of the 47 Ronin 1702/1703). If you want to be precise and accurate, you use era years. And once you quit using Western years, it's surprisingly easy to want to make the sixteenth century (1551) also start off with a '16'.
