I hope this thread is in the right place. I have lamented several times that the AI just seems to weak. Being a newcomer to this board, I see that this is a very well worn path in the discussions. I frequently get the response that the game is best played and enjoyed by multiplayer use.

I just wanted to find out how many of you play multiplayer and what are the real differences that you find in the quality and enjoyablity of the play. I am considering this move and I just thought I would give people a chance to discuss it since I have not seen a thread on this topic.

Thanks all. This truly is a fun game!

Multiplayer is the way to go. It is unpredictable and emotional. You KNOW the AI is stupid. When you play among humans, stupidity in your oponents is somewhat lessened if not greatly.

You get much smarter and cleverer opponents. You can't simply tech rush the economic techs or you'll get creamed. Fall behind in military technology and you're toast. There is actually competition for colonization. If you are weak, you will get attacked. If you get too strong, you will get attacked. Its a much more intense game in MP than SP. If you really want to see some of the differences, go into the MP forum read through sope of the game threads and some of the AAR threads. The MP experience is very different than SP. The only thing that is the same is the game mechanics.

I've playëd a lot of SP on and off since EUII was released and i'd really want to try MP but how do I start? How do I get in touch with dedicated players?

Yeah, that is the big problem with me. Also, I think most of the big MPers are European. :(

Well I've been thinking about playing MP for a long time now, and recently me and 3 friends who haven't tried MP either arranged a game. Ryokens scenario, Im Brandenburg, and they are Austria, England and France. It's great! I even got used the speed. Granted, Im not going to win, considering I made a few mistakes earlier (though they did too), but it's still fun. Go play MP!

As others have already mentioned MP is very intense, very cool when you got 8+ players who are dedicated to seeing their country filled with glory and power. There is nothing better in any computer game than playing against a human mind.

1. It should be remembered that the whole game is intended to be played Multi-Player. That is, the game is a computerized version of an earlier table-top game of the same name which was designed for 6 players, and IIRC didn't even HAVE a solo-play scenario. So the option to play Single-Player is really not the intended mode of play; it's simply put into the game with the understanding that you get a LOT more sales of computer games if a person can play in stand-alone mode. But it's WAY more fun to play Multi-player.

2. To get started in Multi-player, you should take a gander at the Multi-Player sub-forum. There are stickied threads in there to help you with issues such as opening router ports, etc., should you end up with trouble connecting. In addition, each of the games set up by forum users through the forum will have a thread; looking at a few of these can help you locate games which may have openings, or which need a substitute player on a given day/night. Usually, the first post of the thread will have information as to the day and time the game is played. Also, you can simply open a new thread, introducing yourself and giving some information about what days and times you are interested in playing; you often will get a response from someone in a game needing a new player. :)

3. I and many others here are from the so-called Western Hemisphere (the Americas). We usually have at least one game going each of the nights. You don't need to worry about having to play at 2 in the afternoon. ;)

if you don't know what and how of MP:ing, you can always read the "What do you need to know to play EU2 MP" found as a sticky on the MP forum (you will also find it in my sig :) ).
