Several games last week and the only games i get going to 100++ days are with the inventor profile. I truly want to play with the other commander profiles. But the times i tried the electronics maintaince kills me. If build a electronics factory to build without importing the machine parts maintaince kills me. Even had the Drone Hub going off line leading everything in its range shutting down because of out of drone command range. Any suggestions on how to play without inventor?

Buy RC Rovers. They are seriously better than autonomous drone hubs in many regards.

I think the biggest thing is to use the RC-Commander in the place of additional drone hubs.

Keep the colony small and clustered as you can up until you have rare metals and can produce electronics. My second dome, and other people's first (depends on how you play) is fitted with a prefabricated electronics factory ASAP. The only issue is making sure it's got at least one shift maxed, or two as full as possible. Generally, that dome for me is a basic dome with two apartments, a machine parts factory, an electronics factory, med, diner, small decor, nursery, and school. Outside is usually one extractor, fungal farm, and if I can a polymer factory. When filled with 40+ workers it puts out enough materials for a sizable colony. I don't really know if that is enough food for that dome, but I run a farm/research dome first.

One thing that is advisable is to not build too much, too quickly. Try to have the minimum of everything, so track power to make sure it charges batteries, and ensure that the batteries store enough to keep a colony powered (collectively) for a few days). Keep maintentance costs down as much as possible.

Only other advise, is that you should bring in more resources regularly, and tailor the numbers of each to your current demand. I haven't played with the inventor profile, I prefer the Hydroengineer, Doctor, and Astrogeologist.

How many drone hubs do you have, especially early game? two? three?

Inventor saves you just a few electronics, seems like it'd be easy enough to just ship in the few you need and a few extra drones to make up for the efficiency boost. If you consider 50 sols to be early game until you get self sufficiency and use three drone hubs you total maintenance is (50/5)x3 = 30 electronics but probably closer to 20 as you won't start with 3 hubs. One partially filled export rocket will buy all the electronics you need.

Start off with a goal of getting to your 2nd dome. Until then, import machine parts and electronics, and only as many polymer as you need to get each new dome built. Get extra parts and electronics, but never build anything that needs polymers.

Your first factory should be Machine Parts. It should go into your 2nd dome. From this moment forward, you should never have to import machine parts.

Your third dome does polymers. From this moment forward, you should never have to import polymers. Keep making sure you have a stock of 20-25 electronics when you unload a rocket, and ask for another 10-20 each time you drop down to 10.

As of your 4th dome, you should be able to finally build your Electronics Factory. Make it the #1 priority for that dome, keeping that factory fully staffed (yes, all 3 shifts).

Basically, you just have to move a little slowly and don't take your imports for granted. Prioritize Machine Parts and Electronics because of just how crucial they are to your extractors and drones.

Interesting, is it not better strat to focus on mining and just buy your polymers/electronics/machine part exporting your rare metals ? And use this early workforce on research or crops ?
I tend to make polymers first cause i find easier to keep water extractors running than electronics/machine parts factories but polymer factories are water consuming in the long term so maybe i'm wrong and should buy them with money and focus on machine parts/electronics before ?
How do you do to keep your energy stored without polymers?
