Warrior women as? Are you talking about women generals or just girls with high martial skill?

They don't exist and historically there weren't any either as far as I know. Women can (and do) lead castle defenses under siege, but that's the limit of their military involvement.

I recalled hearing about some samurai woman riding into battle with a painted face to scare people rather than a conventional facemask, so I poked around wikipedia briefly. I came across this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onna_bugeisha

It's wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt. However, it sounds like female warriors weren't super uncommon although I don't know how much they would have led armies.

I can recall that some women only elite 'Amazon' units to have been made as guardian maidens for the noble women and pretty sure if these noble women had been trapped on a battlefield their guards would have fought if forced to. I know they existed at times in China (and participated in some battles), but dunno if its also true in Japan. Their cultures are pretty close, so it could be.

Wasn't Yoritomo's wife a general on the battlefield? I seem to remember so.
Never heard of it, but I'm not saying you're wrong. Genpei war isn't my strongest point in Japanese history.
