I'm thinking about picking this up. Although it seems like one of their more sandbox titles. I guess in that defense it's pretty hard to make historical events/relationships happen because of the lack of documentation.

I really love Hoi 3 and EU2. I'm ok with Victoria 2 maybe because it seems to have a lack of focus the prior two have. But I think with an expansion or two it'll be a great game.

The family and heir system seems really neat, but other then the historical time period the rest of the game looks kind of meh. I'll probably pick up CK2 just because I assume it'll be a lot better, since it's been, what 7 years since the original.

This was the first 'sandbox' game by Paradox.

There are no events that fire on specific dates, but there are historical events like the Crusades (but the 1st crusade can be against Alexanndria instead of Jerusalem), the Mongol Hordes and the Plague.

Also you won't have any historical characters, besides the ones you have when you start the game. So if you start in 1066, you won't get a Richard the Lionheart or John Lackland.
