How do you get your ships to board the enemy? I drive them up close and press the board button but they don't do anything.

Its not easy. I have trouble with it. Wait for the boarding icon to change then click on it. Prior to that, try to steer your ship at the rear, then at the side so you collide. A shallow angle of approach is the best. Other angles may work, but it is not likely. Clicking before the icon alerts you is a waste of time.
