5k stars with 50 or so odd Empires mean by mid and end game your computer will literally blow up, unless and until someone makes a mod which reduces texture size, graphics etc..
...I personally would not mind smaller textures and Graphics

Just some news for random galaxy modding, galaxy radius is capped at 500. (This is not my image)
Going higher than that causes this.

This looks a lot different from the 5000 Galaxy size photo.

This is what the Dev Diary says

"We have recently worked on support for static galaxies. This will allow users to create a specific galaxy to use for specific scenarios. In this test we have more than 5000 stars, which still renders smoothly. Might have to optimize the game a bit though :) "

Thats becayse he posted a randomised 5000 galaxy, not a hand made one

This is what 5000 stars look like:

It is pretty slow as you might imagine. I have an i7 4790K running at 4.8GHz and a 980Ti, not that it really matters.

Reactions:
I decided to try 3k stars to reduce the risk of performance drop. I've just started so I can't really evaluate the midgame yet.
I have encountered a namelist problem, though. Some of the stars are unnamed, which means you don't know wheter you've explored or surveyed them, since they have no nametag to be white or grey. I hope this can be fixed with a random name generator.

Edit: Found a bug, too. Since the star doesn't have a name, there's nothing to click on to rename it, meaning I now have a colony in a nameless star system.
