Hello! I'm working on a mod that uses a custom map, and I need help understanding how to make wastelands use terrain coloring even when using the realm mapmode. In order to help illustrate what I'm talking about, I will include screenshots from both vanilla and my mod.

Here's a screenshot from vanilla. As you can see, the area marked "Siberian Wastes" is filled in as if it was in the terrain mapmode, even though I'm using the realm mapmode in this screenshot.

Here is a screenshot from my mod, using the realm mapmode. As you can see, there are many areas in this screenshot that, like the Siberian Wastes in vanilla, are wastelands that cannot be owned by any character. However, all of these areas are colored in black, rather than being filled in as terrain.

I don't know what my mod is doing that's preventing it from using terrain coloring for wasteland. I have tried asking numerous people about this privately, but they were either unable to help me or did not understand what I was talking about. Is there anything I can do to make my mod use terrain coloring for wastelands?

I thought it was a menu setting whether to grey unowned wastelands out or fill them in with terrain colour? Could such a setting have been saved in the mod folder?

The screenshots in my mod were taken with all of the relevant settings turned on. In other words, the menu settings were identical for both pictures shown in the OP.

Alright, I just had to check.
Any chance you could upload the relevant parts (the map folder) here? So I can see what you do with them.

Sure! It should be attached to this post.

So one thing about wastelands is that they should not have names in the definition.csv file; the game will then treat them as proper provinces that happen to be missing history files. Instead just leave them unnamed there and put the name behind it in a comment; just like how it's done with vanilla wastelands.

Could you look if the Great Basin Desert is properly coloured if you use the definition file I attached? I would try out this potential fix but I forgot that I also need some province history and the landed titles file for the change to be visible to me; I just see an empty, pretty map :)
