Does having the sceptic trait prevent one from becoming papal controller? I ask because I had just assumed that role after the previous pope died. I cannot recall the event that came up but I remember thinking that even if I do end up getting the sceptic trait from this event I can always un-excommunicate myself if the pope comes by complaining about it. I selected the option that gave a possibility of getting the sceptic trait, got the trait, and immediately lost the cross on my ruler's portrait. The new papal controller was a Scot with negative piety. He is the current pope's brother so that's probably why.

Nobody really knows how the Papal Controller thing works exactly. But you becoming sceptic or excommunicated surely should end your PC-ness.

That says a lot about the game. I have to disagree with the second statement. Lots of Catholic leaders must have been sceptical about the eternal consequences of their actions in order to turn the church into the corrupt, odious thing that it was in the middle ages.

It's not that there were lots of Rulers who were personally Skeptical about their Religion, it's that for CK purposes, you were publically known by the whole world to be a Skeptic. And that was a bad thing to be in Medieval Christian society.
