Hi everyone,

I have a (dumb) question. My boyfriend and I started a play in multiplayer a few days ago and endgame desync is horrible. We can"t play anymore and it's quite frustrating. Nothing's working so we wanted to play in LAN.
We saw on several topics that it was possible for one of us to host a LAN and for the other to join but we seem completely dumb because impossible to know how to join. We tried using RadminVPN which works like Hamachi, but once we are connected, how exactly are we supposed to set the game ? To be precise we would like to finish the game we previously started if possible ? So, does anyone know how to join his LAN ?

Thank you :)

Just to clarify a few things, LAN = Local Area Network. SO if you are both living in the same apartment / house you will be using your LAN automatically because the LAN is the network in your apartment / house. Your router / modem is the one hosting that private LAN.

If you are using RadminVPN, it sounds like you are NOT both in the same apartment / house. So I am not sure how this will fix your desynch issues because you will still be travelling the same distance over the internet whether it is a RadminVPN or Hamachi. These things simulate LANs over a wide network but do not reduce the distance between you two.

If you are using RadminVPN and Hamachi then everything should just work perfectly fine and you should see the game in the multiplayer list as if it was locally hosted.

Things that might be causing synch issues:
  1. Too much populations:
    1. Consider next game to reduce the
      1. size of the galaxy
      2. number of habitable worlds
      3. Population growth speed
      4. Pre-FTL civs
      5. number of AI empires
  2. Game bug:
    1. Sadly these exist but are often not a serious issue
Beyond getting a better internet and faster computer these are the performance improvement settings our multiplayer group plays with and we often have 6 to 10 people. We always finish our games and have been playing for 4 years. Sure we get "some desynchs" once in a while but we leave, rejoin and the problem goes away:

General settings:
  • Pre-ftl civilizations and pre-sapient species: 0.75
  • Xeno compatibility: off
  • Growth Required Scaling: 0.35
Small Map (6 or less):
  • Special AI Empires: 0 advanced, 1 fallen, 1 marauder
  • Habitable worlds: 0.75
  • Standard AI Empires: 4
Medium Map (7 to 12 players):
  • Special AI Empires: 0 advanced, 2 fallen, 2 marauder
  • Habitable worlds: 0.5
  • Standard AI Empires: 6
