How to play Multiplayer with hamachi

My friend and i have been trying to play darkest hour with hamachi but all that happens is that the game gets stuck on the page for a bit then gets unstuck without joining the server. We have port forwarded these ports through our firewall's 47624, 2300-2310. We have tried to get the games to connect lan to lan, lan to internet and internet to internet. we were using hamachi and both bought the game from steam.

Hamachi is to my long experience utterly useless for Darkest Hour and the Europa Engine in general. Gamersgate is what I recommend if you cannot figure out how to properly port forward. Or some program called "Neorouter" that basically can give you a significantly more stable and lag-free gaming experience than either direct IP or Gameranger can ever give you with DH, but will require one of you to open up your home network to the other player and I think it still requires you port forward, but I am not certain. Gameranger would be the simplest solution while it can be a little unstable.
