TLDR: Any sure-fire way y'all know of to change your Ironman save from a cloud one to a local one? The official PDX method does not seem to work...

Long version:
I started a new Ironman run with the introduction of T&T yesterday, and to have my saves better protected from corruption, I checked cloud saves for the campaign.

Now, about 50 years into the playthrough, I know that was a big mistake. Not only does the game lag like crazy because of the constant auto-saves to cloud, but from what I read on the topic, having cloud saves on actually seems to increase the risk of save corruption in the event of unstable connection.

So, because in Ironman there is no checkbox to disable cloud saves when you have already started, I tried doing the following:
  1. Went to CK 3 Properties -> General -> Disabled "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud"
  2. Copied the cloud save to the local saves directory as per the PDX support article (I seem to be prohibited from linking it here, but google for "Retrieve your cloud saves crusader kings")
After this, I was able to load the save as local - so far so good. I played about 4 more years, then exited the game (with the usual automatic "Saving..." notification). However, when I started up again, the game loaded back to the save I copied over from cloud - the 4 years did not seem to have been saved to the local save nor to the cloud one. I tried several times over and the game always loaded the same snapshot, despite always telling me it is "Saving..." upon exit. Even the respective .ck3 save files had the old time stamp. The only thing that worked to make any progress was to re-enable cloud saves in Steam and loading the cloud save.

Was anyone able to make this work better? Is there maybe something I missed?

Or is starting over the only way to get rid of the cloud save config in Ironman? I really do not want to throw away the progress because of this, but I would rather bite the bullet now than to deal with the cloud saves PITA for the rest of the campaign.

Thank you in advance

I apologize for the necro on this thread... but have been searching and only old threads come up on this topic with no solutions?

I have a cloud save that I want to move locally and it's ironman. I ran into the same issue... copying the file to local is easy enough but the game is "configured" to cloud save and next exit it saves to the cloud. Anyway to configure the save file so it changes to a local save instead? Did anyone find a solution?
