I used wine, everything was okay, but after the video, a box popped up saying "Fatal Error: could not initialize video" and gave 3 options, all of which lead to crash to desktop.
I tried wine with Steel Panthers: world at war, and it run fine. No probs with that...

With the new Wine 1.0 RC2, I've been able to play HoI2 DDA flawlessly for some time now.
Except:
The game just quits randomly.. No error message at all, it just quits. I've run the game from the terminal, and right before it quits, it seems to attempt to debug something. That's all that I've learned so far.
Have you tried the game with the newest wine? If not, what version of wine are you certain that HoI2 works without-a-hitch on?

EDIT: I've also fiddled with what version of Windows it should emulate, but to no avail, I'm afraid.
EDIT2: Apparently I'm completly lost, I meant to post this in the real HoI2 on Linux thread.... Oh well, Ignore this posto

I haven't tried multiplayer. With playonlinux you can install directX, I think you need that for playing multiplayer.

i just mounted the cd and let wine do the job. But if i patch arma to 1.2 it stops working...
You need arma first. Only way to get it is from Gamersgate. Since GG uses .net 2.0 you must download it to a windows machine
Solution, borrow a friend's windowsmachine, install DD, download Arma and install it on your friend's machine. copy the paradoxfolder over to your Linux machine.
