How to stop, pause or cancel Campaign mission quests?

I am one "day" from completing the side quest that I am interested in.
Unfortunately, one of the "main" quests completes itself and the mission is over!
How do I prevent this??? I surely won't replay sever hours just because of the one day! I am truly mad and ready to uninstall this game, which seemed pretty fun at first!

Cheat-codes will do, if there are any.

It would certainly help to know which main quest you are talking about...

In the second campaign mission you can choose between 3 options. One is to retrieve emperor's body and to revive him. Reviving simply means to wait several days (depend on your science points). So these days end ONE day before the side quest completes. The side quest is to revive Elen Show or whatever her name is.

So a research quest? You can always stop a quest research by choosing a technology to research (and pick up the quest research again by choosing "special research" below the tech tree)

It starts automatically. And it goes in parallel with other "normal" researches. "Special research" button below the tech tree is inactive..

I will try to cancel and start normal research again and post here how it works

Quest research from NPC factions is always done in Social.
But some Main quest research is done in Military, rather then Social. It is pretty inconsistent.

However the way to cancel and restart it is the same: Pick something else to reserach now. Wich can require you to re-create the entire line of stuff you queued.
If you want to, later re-pick it from Special Projects Dropdown Menu.
