I'll try. Firstly, how are you attempting to play it? What operating system have you installed in the virtual machine? What operating system are you running on the host (the physical machine)?

EDIT: Oh, I just saw your private message. There are numerous possibilities and ways to fix the problem. When I tried running it on Windows server 2008, I got the same message (For overyone else that might have the problem: "fatal error : could not initialize video"). It may be that It is somehow incompatible with vista-based operating systems.

Also, have you installed the guest-addons? They drastically increase performance of the virtual OS.

Lastly, if you navigate to the settings of that particular virtual machine (Click on it, and then on settings) then you can increase the VRAM of the virtual graphics card. I'm not sure, since I think it's already enough to support the minimum requirements of Doomsday, but it may not be enough for armageddon.

Good luck, and do ask if you run into more problems ;)

tried increasing vram , nothing changes :( maybe armageddon requires directd3d and as i have read virtualbox does not support it...

Strange.. Works fine with me. Are you running the one from the ubuntu repositories, or did you download the full version from the VirtualBox site? I got that error message on the one I downloaded from their site, but always thought it was because of windows server 2008. Perhaps I was wrong, and that the one from the Ubuntu repositories are the working ones (I removed it and installed the one from ubuntu and installed windows xp on it). Do you have service pack 2?

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling HoI2. First HoI2DD, then patch to 1.3, then armageddon, then arma patch to 1.2 .

If THAT doesn't work, then I'm out of options I'm afraid :(

HOI2-DD Arm in Linux

Hi All

I have Armageddon, fully patched. Tried in WINE, starts fine, then after about two minutes kicks back to desktop, every time. I have read of others having this problem. Tried VirtualBox, with XP, game loads, but mouse does not integrate correctly, I can get to the scenario screen then the whole VB window goes gray and I have to crash it to get out.

Linux

What release of wine have people been sucessful in playing HOI2:Arma with?
Wine release 1.1.20 works great (as in perfect) for me playing guild wars, but not for HOI2 - it runs, then it crashes. It is amazing to me that a graphic intensive game like Guild Wars runs without a single crash, but HOI2 can't?

As for virtualbox, I have no idea how folks are getting that to work - it loads for me (under linux hosting a virtual XP box) but then freezes at the first game select screen.

Any help, advice or info would be appreciated.

Do I have to install the game with Wine as well? I just zipped the Doomsday folder in my Windows installment and tried to run it. The game loads but I get a crash when opening a save game. May be some registry entries are missing? If I have to install it all over with Wine, how would I install Armageddon since I got it from Gamersgate?

Hey all. I recently switched over from Win XP to Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit (along with a substantially better computer). Doomsday/Armageddon works just fine w/Wine version 1.2.2 using the PlayOnLinux client. My only problem is that I have to let it hijack my resolution and play in fullscreen because when I force it to a virtual desktop, the mouse and keyboard inputs don't appear to work. Has anyone else run into this?
