HSR MOD 2.01 - H/A Germany '36

Finally HSR is availaible for HOI2 and so I decided to make an AAR which will be somewhat a mix of a test of HSR and the "vanilla" AAR currently in progress. I think I pretty much screwed my "vanilla" game so I will soon have time to update this AAR pretty often :D

Game Settings
Game Version: HOI2 1.1
HSR Version: 2.01
Difficulty: HSR HARD
Agressiveness: AGRESSIVE
Rules: Trying to "emulate" a simulation of WWII based on history but my flavour. This includes to try to avoid exploits and no save and reload to eleminate bad choices. Leader deaths will be manually edited leaving deaths of old age and deaths likely to happen untouched, removing deaths from events in case they do not occur (Stalingrad f.e.) and adding a chance for leader deaths in case units get destroyed.
Other: I will comment my game experience, troubles with the mod and suggestions in green. Story is in Palatino Linotype to look old ;)

I like the look of the map, except the small flags in the unit selection. I have deleted those and will use the standard unit icons only.

Even though officially the focus of the politics of the gouvernment of Germany was to stabilize the german economy it was worked secretly on detailled plans and strategies for an upcoming war (+HAWK).

A huge priority was given economic improvements and Thyssen was considered the right man for the job. Also it was worked on improving the Luftwaffe, mainly Fighters, to achieve air superiority early in the war - and so Carl von Siemens was appointed as Chief of Airforce.

The focus of research was made in the industrial sector.
Still if the Kriegsmarine should be able to fight the numerical superior UK or US navies this could only be achieved via modern ships, especially carriers.

Even though the german gouvernment initiated a huge economy program the economical crisis of the early 30's had caused a lot of unemployment and dissent...

It was also the time of restructurizing the army...

Thanks to the people mentioned here for the work they put into their mod:

Just a thought about the adjustments of TP cost - you can easy avoid them if you start building before the event. Maybe adjustments could be solved like in HSR for HOI where you could not build till the adjustments were finished if the game engine permits?

ImageShack allows each image 100 megabytes of transfer per hour.

Wow, thats even better then photobucket where I have 1.5 gig bandwith per month. Thanks for the tip - I guess minimizing will now be minimized ;)

Preparing "The" Olympic Games
The German Gouvernment was eager to use the Olympic Games as propaganda platform. Also it would help to employee more people and to keep the masses satisfied. The cost was immense, though.

Glad to hear it :)
I especially hope that some new players who look into the AAR section for some input will try out the different MODs for HOI2 and find out that the game experience is so much improved by using a MOD. Its like buying one game and getting a bunch of similar games for free :D

Oh, wow HSR 2.01 is out already :)
Unfortunately savegames are not compatible, but I am not far into the game yet anyways and will restart to take advance of the new events and adjustments.
I will modify the AAR accordingly.

Yes, the mod comes with graphical modifications.
Thanks to the tip of elbasto I am able to post the pics in original size so you can take a closer look :)

Well, I dunno if there will just be HSR or also Stony for HOI2.
Think maybe with the upcoming AI patch on VH the game unlikely to HOI1 will be really VH ;)

The HSR "LOOK":

Seems that the swastikas in the german unit selection screen are gone now. I didnt even notice that the issue was quite serious since the board rules prohibit even linking to mods that include them until I run ito some "moderation" of my other AAR ;)

I encountered some minor issues, though:

Probably typo?

Also the Economical Crisis (+5 dissent) event now pops first and after that the (-10 dissent) HSR welcome event leaving you usually with 0 dissent - is this WAD?

Situation 1936
The economical crisis of the early 30s was still present, but the situation had stabilized and the hidden preparation for war was creating many new jobs in Germany. First the economy had to be improved and precious ressources would have to be collected to withstand a probable economical blockade in case of war. Key to success would be technological superiority in all areas - for now especially in the industrial sector. Only with this strong industrial base the doctrine of "Armoured Spearhead and Total Air Superiority" could be achieved which was considered key to win the war. This also included air superiority over sea - if the Kriegsmarine should be able to fight the numerical superior UK or US navies this could only be achieved via modern ships combined with air support - especially carriers were considered to play a deceisive role. Research was therefore mainly focused on Naval and Industrial technologies for now.

Officially the focus of the politics of the gouvernment of Germany was to stabilize the german economy but it was worked secretly on detailled plans and strategies for an upcoming war and many projets that looked like simple civil works and improvements would have also their use in a war. (+HAWK).

A huge priority was given economic improvements and Thyssen was considered the right man for the job. Goebbels ability to mobilize the masses and bring them on track for an upcoming war was considered incredibly helpful and he was assigned Minister of Security.

Meanwhile the increasing power of the SA created some tension in Germany...

36hp9bs.jpg

where would it end?

36hp21xc.jpg

Since the balance of power between the different organizations in Germany was in danger the decision was made to whipe out the SA...

36hp39fn.jpg

this would bind the Army closer to the gouvernment and would please the publicity, which was disturbed by the more and more violent and arbitrary actions of the SA in public.

36hp41dv.jpg

Officially plans for a coup and the (at that time criminalized) well known homosexuality of Röhm were uses to justify the actions.

I stumbled about an incredible interesting report about what happened:

ZDF REPORT

Unfortunately its in German, but includes some incredible interesting infos like these:
Am Tag der Festnahme notierte Goebbels angesichts der Kaltblütigkeit Hitlers anerkennend in sein Tagebuch: "Chef ist glänzend, Chef macht seine Sache gut."
(Goebbels writes in his Diary, impressed how cold-blooded Hitler is: "Chef is great, Chef is doing a good job")
Still Hitler did not want to kill his former friend Röhm, but Göring and Himmler had him convinced at a NSDAP-Garden Party.
Crazy.

1936 - resumed

After the lost WWI many Germans felt mortified and exploited by the Allies by the treaty of Versailles. To bring Germany back to its former power would be a long way and it would be critical to know the reactions of the Allies since achieving this target without a war and just by diplomacy would be the best option...

3605015if.th.jpg

It was on the other hand wise not to confront the Allies with open expansion tendencies as long as Germany was not ready for a war. Uniting Germany and Austria was the next planned step. The decision was made to try a peaceful diplomatic solution (Anschluss) in favour of military pressure...

Even though the German Publicity would have rather loved a faster solution.

1937 - I

Overview January 1937
Germany would continue its industrial buildup in 1937 - but with stronger focus on an upcoming war. The Idea was to build up especially the "Westwall" which would be propagized as non-agressive act of defense. With the improved industry base trade flourished and large amounts of critical ressources were traded for, especially with the ideological enemy Soviet Union.

A New Alliance
On 18th of July 1937 Germany and National Spain forged a military alliance.
Massive german support had brought Franco close to victory, but Republican Troops still fought a guerillia war, especially around Huelva. Franco feared the Republican Troops would continue this war quite some time, being supported from many countries. Germany offered to send troops to once more help out Franco - but this time as an "official act", helping its ally. Franco agreed, not knowing that Germany was soon likely to end up in a war against the Allies by forcing the "Lebensraum im Osten" - Doctrine.
