The reason I want to know is I am creating a zone with a void in the middle (I have it as the primary because it is the middle of the map), and wonder if it is for the AI to know what is important to claim/defend or if it is for the random map engine to know where it should place it or something. I really have no idea of the importance or meaning of the primary sector of a region.

Please help me out if you know.

Hi, I asked our rmg specialist and they replied:
The Primary Sector in a region mainly serves as a reference point for systems that need to anchor something spatially, like placing the region on a grid for campaign maps or positioning key structures (e.g., cities, ancient wonders, infestations) during random map generation.
If you're making a custom region, it doesn't have much practical impact. However, if you were building a custom campaign using the story realm grid system, then the Primary Sector would be used as the region’s "center" for placement and alignment.
In short:
  • For random maps, the Primary Sector can help the game engine decide where major structures go.
  • For custom campaigns, it can help align the region in a grid layout.
  • For general use, it’s not critical.
Hope that helps!
