There's too many posts with weird negativity here, so I just want to say how excited I am for this. Age of Wonders (especially Shadow Magic) is one of my favorite game series of all time, so getting a new AoW title is like having every holiday at once.

While I'm a little skeptical of the sci-fi setting, I understand the desire to branch out of AoW's classic fantasy setup and try something a little different, and so I'm interested to see what they do with it.

Let's see what happens, I mean if it succeeds we get another good AoW, if it fails the critics get to say "I told you so!" so everyone wins ;)
 
I'm super excited about this game.

AoW3 is hands down my favorite and - IMHO - the best designed turn based 4X in recent memory. It's an outstanding game and one of the few recent games across the entire genre to have full turn based tactical combat. And it's by far the best at doing it.

I've never been a big fan of fantasy settings in 4X, but AoW3 won me over on its excellent design and gameplay. So for me, seeing it tackle the planetary sci-fi theme is just awesome. Alpha Centauri remains one of my other favorite 4X games. Pandora and Beyond Earth are the only other noteworthy titles - so it's a very underrepresented theme for 4X games compared to fantasy, historical, and space.

All in all, I can't wait to get my paws into this one.

Can't see the difference from where I'm at right now. I'd think there should be something visible....

Also, if I press "Show only dev responses" on the top of the page, yours disappear.

I share the excitement! I actually welcome the scifi setting (it seems to have fantasy elements anyway :)). AoW3 is still a great game with the traditional fantasy background, it was just updated a few weeks back. It's good that the series evolves, and I know I'll have a ton of fun with Planetfall.
 
I wasn't actually expecting to get anything from Triumph any time soon in the next few years since they've been so secretive about the project, and then got acquired. But I am stoked about the new game!!

All of a sudden, that avatar's become a lot less intimidating than when I thought that was a bear. :)
 
Why would it be a bear? There are no bears. There are especially no secret bears in Paradox games, and certainly none would be actually developing a video game for Paradox! Preposterous!
 
I've never played an AoW game, but this sounds like something I'd enjoy. Looking forward to hearing more about it.
I should probably give AoW3 a go next time it's on sale and get some idea of what it's all about.

Same. I gave up on strategy games for the longest time until I tripped over Stellaris. Now I've got almost all the expansions for Stellaris and I'm looking forward to Planetfall.
 
Can easily say AoW3 is among my top two games - when I heard AoW was going into science fantasy the first thought that came to my head was "I didn't know that I wanted this", but boy do I want it! So hyped, so excited - cool setting, great devs, horrible horrible wait time xD
