Hello, thank you for your report! Unfortunately, the information you've provided is not sufficient for us to determine what's going on.
Could you:
- attach a save where the game crashes; and
- attach a zipped crash folder (which can be found in \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Victoria 3\crashes folder)?
This would make it much easier for us to both figure out what's going on, and to later fix it.
Cheers!

sorry I hadn't had a chance to get a save file up until today, I hope you can gain some information from it

I've looked at the files, and unfortunately I still can't do much with them:
- the autosave is from year 1836; could you attach an autosave just before the freeze?
- the "crashes" file is empty - do I understand correctly that there were no crash folders created? If so, I'd ask you to attach zipped "logs" folder from Documents - it should be zipped after the game has froze, before you restart the game again.

I'll see what I can find to send over. Perhaps I sent the wrong autosave. I assume the crash logs are empty because the game doesn't actually ever close. It hard crashes my entire pc. Audio and visual freezes completely and I have to reboot. I would have thought it was an issue with my ram but my computer passed ramtests and it only happens in vic3.

I realize this save is only 1836, but the instability has already begun. Hangs every few weeks, only to eventually hard crash the PC

I can't reproduce the issue locally, and I don't see anything in the logs about what could be causing this.
The only thing I can do is to move this thread to Tech Support forum, maybe people there will be able to help you.

i see, unfortunately the issue happens on both of my gaming computers - so I was under the impression that it was not on my end. I'm running a memtest at the moment on my primary machine just out of curiosity. Thanks for your efforts

I've tried a bios update on my mobo, and saw improved performance in vic3 initially, but the issue persists and I cant even make it passed 1838 now. Attached are some files that I hope might have more information

i was snooping around through my windows event viewer, and the only issues it has flagged actually points towards the pdx launcher 2 open beta in my appdata. I've deleted the folder in order to recreate those files. I'll report back if it has any effect on the stability of vic3

after wiping the pdx launcher folder from my appdata i am able to play a stable game beyond 1850. I hope my effort in troubleshooting this over the last few days can help anyone else having similar crashing problems that don't appear within the vic3 logs

i've noticed gpu usage is nearly 50% lower when i roll back to 1.7.x , and constantly jumps from 5-60%, whereas on version 1.8.x the gpu was running a constant 80-100%

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here. IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt

thank you for getting back to me, find attached information. Hopefully it contains some clue

I see no problems in any of those files, there's no mention of the game or any forced PC restart in that dxdiag.

With those settings you should see fps of 60 or lower in the game, is that right?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

And, please look in your Windows Event viewer at the time of the latest game/PC crash. Hopefully there are ERROR or WARNING entries that point to what is causing this problem!

this is very frustrating, i must say. The fps is very stable with the settings suggested, nearly locked to 60 except for when zoomed in, where it will dip to no lower than 50.

my cpu, which idles around 40c, goes to around 51c with vic3 running at speed5,.
similar temps on the gpu, 44c-56.

my windows event viewer is not much help today, I don't see any noteworthy errors/warnings when i filter the list. It does however recognize that I had made several forced restarts because of the apphang.

might I add that there's a similar issue when i run vic3 on my other gaming computer, highly unstable gameplay with frequent hangs that force a system reboot. But i understand it's better to focus on the one machine right now
